I had been trying to get into ketosis for about a month eatign very little protein, taking olive oil and coconut oil and almost no carbs but was only able to get into very light ketosis when testing with a stick. My energy was also very low aswell.
So I had gotten some heavy whipping cream from the store just to try it. I drank about 25% of it and omg let me tell you. I was like.... Instantly put into the most intense ketosis. The ketostick was super dark purple and I felt so clear headed and energetic.. It was crazy. 24 hours later I noticed my face was thinning out and complexion got so much better and I jumped on the scale and already had lost nearly 3 pounds. Also my stomach went super acidic like it was like desperately try to digest what I just put into it.
This is what I would have expected from coconut oil not heavy whipping cream?. Does anyone have any idea why this is?. Olive Oil would just make me more sick than anything..
I don't know about the ketosis part, but a good amount of heavy cream makes me feel euphoric as well...I searched it a while back and did not come up with much. Perhaps it's due to the casomorphins also present in cheese which produce an opiate-like effect. But it's also been said that cream doesn't contain much casomorphins.
Most fat sources (eg, vegetable oil) contain mainly long-chain triglycerides, which must be packaged into chylomicrons, after which they go through a complicated musical chairs, passing among VLDL, IDL, LDL, HDL, etc... before finally arriving at a target tissue, where they may not even be metabolized (ie, no ketones).
Coconut oil is considered "ketogenic" because it contains a large amount of medium-chain triglycerides, which are absorbed and sent straight to the liver, without going through the chylomicron system, to be metabolized into ketones.
Butyric acid, which @james-3 mentions, is a short-chain triglyceride. If it is indeed abundant in cream, it would explain your experience because short-chain triglycerides follow the same pattern that medium-chain triglycerides do.
