I'm getting bored with drinking herbal tea every day and I'm trying to cut back on my coffee/caffeine intake (as well as the milk) so I'm on the look out for any suggestions for other types of hot drinks. They need to be Paleo, i.e. nutritious and low toxicity, and most of all tasty. What do you drink that's not the usual suspects?
Just tried the turmeric tea suggestion from Marty -- very nice! Next time I'll skip the honey because it's sweet enough already, and I'll strain out the ginger as crunchy lumps just don't seem right in a smooth drink. I'm going to try seeing if I can get the coconut milk to froth too.
Almond milk lattes (can do decaf), almond milk tea lattes and green tea matcha lattes (with real powder, not sugared up concentrate). I like to season everything with cinnamon. I also like to do my version of hot cocoa--almond milk, raw cacao and coconut sugar. I also like to dump a splash of almond milk into my black tea with a squirt of raw local honey.
Mark's Daily Apple has this ridiculous turmeric tea
It's made with coconut milk, so it's more of a substitute for hot coco than tea.
I heat up some almond milk and add a piece or two of dark chocolate to it, its almost like hot chocolate, only better. Or if you're not opposed to using stevia, heated almond milk with a tiny it of peppermint stevia is delicious.
I love Chai. It's soothing on a cold and rainy day especially.
I came up with one rather accidentally.
There are various ways to come up with Chais, but here goes:
My accidental chai masala, 1/2 teaspoon of each:
Yields: 1 mug.
Grind the spices up, put them in a tea bag, and steep them up with another bag of tea of choice.
I've tried with Assam and Rooibos tea; they both work well with the spices.
You can add:
Try some Yerba Mate. Lower caffeine than coffee, great flavor, and smooth, long-lasting buzz. Been drinking this stuff for years and I love it. Can be bought from most organic grocers now, or online from such companies as Guayaki.
