I've been taking B-complex vitamins lately, and immediately my pee turned bright yellow. Will my pee be like that forever (as long as I take the supps), or will it stop after a while. I don't feel comfortable looking at that weird color :D.

I get worried when I take B vitamins and my pee is NOT that color. – Michelle Jul 12 2011 at 16:23

It's the riboflavin aka B2 that gives it that color. It sticks around as long as you take B complex vitamins. It's not harmful.

If you want to explore the world of weird colored urine, there's beets for pink, lots of asparagus will produce green or turquoise, and truly excessive carrots can make your pee (and skin) orange.

Agreed, disappears within a couple of hours for me if I have liver and after a few hours with my slow release vitamin b supplements. – David Moss Jul 12 2011 at 15:41
A twisted part of me is rather curious as to how much asparagus it takes to produce turquiose urine... – Simibee Jul 12 2011 at 19:03
My pee has never changed colour eating beet(root). I've seen this thing about it being pink a few times... B2 gives me greenish pee rather than bright yellow though. – Efaitch Jul 12 2011 at 20:05
Simbee, I know it happens at @ 1lb for me. I can tuck away some asparagus esp w some Hollandaise sauce. – Karen Jul 12 2011 at 21:36
Efaitch, I believe I read somewhere that beeturia (technical term for pink pee from eating beets) was genetic... I know the ability to smell asparagus-smell pee is – Moonablaze Aug 18 at 2:06

There's more B2 in the vitamin than your body can currently process. Make sure you're taking them with a meal to slow digestion. Over time, my body got used to it but even if it doesn't it's not a big deal.

I have also found that after a week or two of consistently taking a multi b-vitamin the color goes away. – Sara S. Aug 1 at 13:15

True :), though my conversation partners don't seem to agree. – Korion Jul 12 2011 at 16:51

I just want to say, these posts made my day. My pee does the same green thing with B complex, and I eat lots of beets but it's not my pee that turns red/purple.

I've been googling this same question because I want to know the chemical reason the wizz turns yellow from riboflavin. Does anyone know the answer? Thank you.

my understanding is that the riboflavin is yellow and it comes out in your pee. I know b12 is reddish orange... – Moonablaze Aug 18 at 2:07
