For me it is the omega 6/3 ratio

What say you hackers?

Hard to argue with that one. – Stabby Jul 16 2011 at 22:47
I don't know if it's as simple as ratio. Total PUFA should float under 6%. Then we've got ourselves a ball game. – No more. Jul 17 2011 at 19:07
With regards to inflammation it's "omega-3 index" but I'm thinking that ratio is a good and quick measure of both index and total PUFA. If ratio is too high you know that both are out, if it is good then you know both are in. – Stabby Jul 17 2011 at 20:17
Who does the Omega 3 Index test besides Dr Davis ? – Ikco Jul 18 2011 at 9:12

Enjoyed your answer but HbA1c is not a measure of inflammation but an avg of blood glycosylation. Very non specific but a helpful test for those eating carbs – The Quilt Jul 16 2011 at 22:56

Some kind of androgen test.

But I like the n3:6 ratio, too.

best androgen test is a free T with SHBG done simultaneously. If the patient is HPA is shot LH will be in the shitter. But symptoms are usually real easy to pick up on. Interestingly you can be fully potent unless leptin is optimized even for men. Its critical for women because of how leptin modualtes their sex steroids and oocyte development but men benefit huge. I have some guys were we really push their total T and free hard. – The Quilt Jul 16 2011 at 23:43

I like serial waistline measurement. For me, it's a sensitive indicator of how much I've been cheating and how effective my recent exercise regimen has been. Best of all, it's free.

Life longevity. Of course, once you get the test results back, its a little late.

It's how I feel. If I can walk for 90 minutes, enjoying the scenery, and feel great all day instead of exhausted then my health is good.

This two-part test:

A. Do you feel healthy?

B. Do you feel happy?

This has always been a better indicator of health for myself than any lab test. My n6/n3 intake has never correlated well with my health (of course, this is n=1, and I've only had it measured once), but the above test always does! If I had to pick a lab test, I guess it'd be n6/n3 or salivary cortisol.

maybe a more accurate way to assess these is how do you sleep. If you the answer is well I bet both answers are yes. – The Quilt Jul 17 2011 at 20:47

You don't think there are too many confounders with sleep? Some people sleep like logs all the time. Some people sleep more when depressed. Some people have noisy dogs living next door. – Kamal Jul 17 2011 at 21:57

I'd mirror some of the answers above. For inflammation, perhaps a C-reactive protein.
