So our little 6 month old got a high fever the other night and a test confirmed it's a urinary tract infection. She was given an initial shot of antibiotics at the hospital, and further prescribed 4ML orally once a day for 10 days, even if fever clears.
The antibiotic's generic name is cefdinir. My question: are there probiotics specifically helpful for infants in these sorts of situations? I understand the risk of not taking the antibiotic is something worse like kidney infection. But I'm wary of how this will affect her good gut bacteria.
We've just started her on solid foods in the past couple of weeks. So far its been egg yolk, sweet potato, avocado, smidgen of grass fed liver, some pureed grass fed ground beef, coconut oil, apple sauce for palatability. Should we try throwing something fermented in the mix like fermented cod liver oil? Or do we wait until after the 10 days of antibiotics?
I'm not even bothering asking the pediatrician about this yet, as I assume we'll just be scolded for not starting her with rice cereal.
