The list might be short if they won't put anyone on the show who has been openly critical of Dr. Oz. Like it or not, Dr. Oz is quite popular and influential. Who would you like to see on the show? And, why? (or is that a different question?)

My first reaction is Kurt Harris. However, on second thought he doesn't suffer fools and oz would probably irritate him. In the words of dana white regarding nick Diaz, harris is anti- "the game".

So next I'd like Stephan Guyanet to go on there. I think his temperament is perfect and unlike wolf- who I like also- or sisson he comes from less of a jock-type background and his science and research is steeped in understanding the obesity epidemic which is a place where many of oz's viewers and mainstream Americans can relate. Also the fact that he doesn't necessarily consider himself paleo is not a bad thing either.

Paleo superstar? >_> Um... Stephan Guyenet. I think as far as first impressions go, Stephan would probably make the best. He's not as gung-ho as some of the others, which can come off as crazy to people who've been preached the USDA's sermon. Plus the credentials. I think one of the reasons Oz feels as if he can patronize guests like Taubes like they're misguided or not as knowledgable as he is comes down to credentials.

Mark Sisson. Even as a woman I find him easy to relate to. And he's in his 50s which appeals to me.

Since this is my own fantasy, I want him to bring his wife on Dr. Oz as well. We all need to see what living the life looks like. She is AMAZING. He could pimp her out.

Why can she be the superstar on her own? – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 20:21

Loon - he had a post about her maybe a year ago? She's incredibly fit, gorgeous, healthy, in her 50s, and, to me, the poster-woman for how living this primal/paleo life can look. marksdailyapple.com/ask-carrie-a-question I may have strayed from the original intent of the question. But Carrie is fantastic. – Deborah105 Jul 20 2011 at 10:08

No one because they will just cut out the parts that provide true science and leave in the parts that make our Paleo superstar look like a pork grind eating nut case who refuses to get their cholesterol checked!

I would rather them continue to do tours on news organizations or attend round table events with people of opposing views. Dr. Oz, Oprah, the View, etc are for entertainment purposes only and to many people take what these entertainers say as gospel!

pork grind? I am sure you meant rind, but pork grind sounds kind of illegal, too. Maybe if you mix it with gluten and some low fat Greek yogurt Dr. Oz will like it more. – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 14:24

Do the pork grind. It sounds like a hot dance move. Pair it with the spastic colon and you've got yourself a party! – wjones3044 Jul 19 2011 at 16:48

De Vany, Wolf, an Sisson. They should show up with their latest blood tests and take off their shirts and have a pose-down, and challenge The Wizard of Oz to do the same. Then ask Oz to explain scientifically what he thinks is wrong with the diet.

nice one. I'd go with Wolf cuz he's very affable, light-hearted, easy-to-believe kind of guy. Sisson cuz he's older, perhaps bringing a bit more gravitas to the situation. – ben61820 Jul 19 2011 at 13:32

naw. I don't really want to see all of Dr. Oz's v-neck chest-hair sculpture up close. – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 14:21

Ha. He does like to rock that soap opera look – ben61820 Jul 19 2011 at 17:14
oh well, guess its not going to be Wolf. he he. – The Loon Sep 15 2011 at 2:44

None of them. Dr. Oz would just make the general public hate paleo even more by claiming our diet is crazy and dangerous. He has to cater to the SAD and advertising companies and couldn't support a paleo diet even if he wanted to. If you haven't already, read what Gary Taubes said about being on the show: http://bit.ly/npVKsP

Great answer. Why does the community feel the need to convert others to paleo is something I have been wondering. I am new to the lifestyle and love it, if others don't and they think I am nuts they can piss off. – Steve Zissou Jul 19 2011 at 14:28

I understand your point. But when you see family sickening themselves it cam be challenging. – ben61820 Jul 19 2011 at 17:14
I watched it recently, and Dr. Oz said the number one diet food was whole wheat pasta.... – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 22:55

THE QUILT! Can you imagine??? It would be the best show ever!

oh yea, smackdown. Can you hear it? "I'm up to my elbows in brain matter all day long, and I can just see all that crap in the hypothalamus!" – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 20:20

Tom Naughton. When he's not talking about economics he's really very funny.

But his movie is really difficult to watch. I thought it was terrible. You like it? – ben61820 Jul 19 2011 at 17:13
loved it. Guess I am just a fan of strange humor. Every time I see the data points crashing down, I still giggle. – The Loon Jul 19 2011 at 20:23

Mark Sisson would definitely get the message across in a way that could actually be received by some (most?!) Oz watchers. I find that his approach, to someone who has NEVER heard of paleo/primal anything, is more realistic for a super SAD dieter. I was hooked by the Primal Blueprint, which worked wonders for me almost instantly, and led me to do further research and ultimately find paleo. I think it could absolutely do the trick for yo-yo dieters, couch potatoes, fit-into-the-dress-by-June-ers, people tuning in to lower their cholesterol, etc., but it would also be the first exposure to paleo for many people, allowing them to try it out, dig deeper, and really figure out what works for them as individuals. Mark's approach is way less "scary", or drastic, to a newbie than many of the others.

Robb Wolf would SCHOOL Dr. Oz on so many things, and have absolutely no shame. He would be getting down to the nitty gritty on so many levels and use a ton of science vocabulary. While I would love for him to really show Dr. Oz what's up on SO many levels, I really don't think it would convey the message in a Dr. Oz "segment". I think that through the conventional wisdom medium of Dr. Oz's show would make Robb look like radical and crazy. The audience would be clinging to their beliefs and fears and go along with the "yeah, what a nut job!" that would ultimately take over the show. "Well wow, what a crazy caveman....up next, statin ice cream, could it save your life?" I think his message would be lost and that the loyal Dr. Oz fans would totally believe the "what are you, crazy?" replies to Robb's science (as opposed to science replies to Robb's science).
