This problem is only going to be an issue for two months but it's annoying as hell so far. My grad school starts up in the fall and I'm staying with my mother for two months between leases. She has these two 'hypoallergenic' dogs that I'm "allergic to". It's not a normal allergy -- no hives or that sort of jive. I've had a minor cold (stuffy nose, inflamed throat) for the past two weeks and things seem not to be getting worse. It's just two weeks so I'm not to worried but I'd like a little relief from. Thoughts?

Have you ever used a Neti pot? It doesn't cure allergies, but rinsing the irritant out of your sinuses can really help with the stuffy nose symptoms.

Hadn't even thought of using a netipot for allergies. Great idea! – No more. Jul 19 2011 at 22:22

Speaking from a lifetime of allergies to dogs, there are no hypoallergenic onces. You are lucky that your reaction is so mild, as mine prevents me from breathing.

You may have luck with a second-generation antihistamine. I find that I prefer lortadine (Claritin), which has fewer side effects than the others and is now widely available in generic form. You can get a years supply at Sams/Costco for less than $15 generally. Here's an Amazon link. Good luck! http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-AllerClear-Loratadine-Antihistamine-300-Count/dp/B002VLZHMM
