I've been blessed with clear skin and never had any major acne problems growing up, even in my teen years. However, I have noticed a very peculiar pattern in my occasional pimples.
1. Clean eating = no pimples.
2. Eating beef liver clears my skin. Weird?
2. When I eat fried salmon, or other things fried, I get severe pimples on my nose, on both sides.
3. When I consume any dairy, I get pimples on my jaws, chin and neck.
4. Every time I cheat for a couple of days in a row, I get a pimple right next to my left nostril and it stays there for a week, I can't get rid of it.
I have problems with digestion, insulin and other stuff, but I still think the food - pimple connection is quite puzzling to me. I found a so-called Chinese medicine acne map, but I don't really believe it. The map does not match my problems.
Anybody else noticed the same?
Pimples indicate poor gut health. Even people on the paleo diet can have increased intestinal permeability and gut dysbiosis. My guess is that when you eat your trigger foods, they are making their way through your overly permeable intestinal walls in a partially undigested state. Your body doesn't like these weird substances coming in and your immune system reacts to them as it would a virus or bacterial infection. This constant state of irritation makes your body overreact to bacteria in your pores, causing zits.
I've had good luck clearing up my acne by healing my gut. Try going on the autoimmune protocol and simultaneously starting a regimen of probiotics and resistant starch. Keep at it for at least 8 weeks before slowly reintroducing your trigger foods. You may find you'll be able to eat them with no skin reaction.
Eating clean (low-carb paleo) sure helps me avoid pimples but sometimes I fall off the wagon, which for me can mean too much raw dark honey or raw unrefined cane sugar and even wild bee pollen and I will breakout. The only food I have noticed that has really come close to being a cure for acne is home made milk kefir from pastured raw milk and kefir grains but the problem is there are just too many hormones in milk which I'm inherently sensitive too (I get a reoccuring sharp pain in my prostate region) also it requires too much work for me to make.
Pimples indicate your hormones are out of wack so keep eating clean and try to avoid stress to keep your hormones working more smoothly.
Apparently grounding or earthing everyday can prevent the inflammation (redness of pimple) from happening and can even diminish it rapidly which is a a benefit not only for acne but all inflammation related diseases which is the great majority of them
Just to spitball, if beef liver clears your skin then maybe you need more vitamin A in your diet. Vitamin A is important for skin health and it is found in large quantities in beef liver, sooo......
The other things could be linked to inflammation, another important factor for acne and pretty much any other health issue. Could be caused by a sensetivity to dairy or an inflammatory reaction to damaged foods or higher levels of omega 6.
To me it indicates one thing - not eating enough home cooked food!
The only time I ever get spots is if i've been eating takeaways & sugary processed foods. The worse culprit is Chinese food, I think its either the MSG or more than likely the vegetable oils.
Pimples occur as a result of hair follicles becoming plugged with dead skin cells and oil. High glycemic index in the diet, which contains foods like, refined grains; bread, which breaks down into sugar very quickly, is one of the causes of pimples.
I personally suffer from pimples when I start consuming milk. The reason which I was got from the Skin specialists was that Milk causes my insulin levels which secrets androgen receptors which is the prime cause or trigger for pimples. There are some other factors that causes recurrent pimples on same spot include dietary errors, Vitamin Deficiency or repeat constipation attacks. Foods that are rich in carbohydrate including French fries, Spicy foods Pizza, Chess etc are amongst the triggers of pimples
It indicates that your hormones are out of whack or that your skin is trying to push out toxins from foods you may be inteolerant to. Now for me face mapping I found to be effective because when I was SAD I would break out on my forehead and the forehead is linked to the digestive system and I had all sorts of tummy troubles...
