I recently started Bio-Kult too and by the 4th day was feeling rotten.Fatigue, bloating, and constipation were the main symptoms. I read on Gaps that one should pull back on the bio Kult if that happens and take much less (a quarter of a capsule- to half a capsule) until feeling better. Any comments? I'm going to do that tomorrow, unfortunately, I just realized the problem today AFTER I took my bio-kult. Hope I feel better soon, this is bad news.

I do a mix of Paleo and SCD diets (GAPS is based on SCD). I personally feel good. As per SCD I don't eat tubers yet (so their starch don't feed the bad bacteria in my damaged gut). I do my own home-made lactose-free probiotic goat yogurt, I take my vitamin D + K2, another multi-vitamin, iFlora for probiotic. I don't do legumes that SCD allows, but Paleo doesn't. Everything else is very Paleo in my diet (coconut oil etc). I reduced my diarrhea from 4-5 times a day, to once a week. All this good fortune in 6 weeks of following these two diets. |

I am doing Gaps myself and have been using BioKult for over a year. It is a very effective probiotic and one of the few I can take. BioKult is extremely strong and it takes a long time to build up to a therapeutic dose. (It took me a few months.) Once at the therapeutic dose, the die off symptoms slowly back down. I had to follow her advice in the book which is to build up until you have die off which is manageable, stay there until the symptoms relax, then build up again. Try half capsule increments until things start to pick up faster then you can increase by a full capsule at a time. BioKult is so effective for me that when I ran out a few months ago it was the first time my parents really believed in the Gaps diet because I regressed so severely. But I had severe symptoms when I rushed the dose, so take it slow. Best wishes to you... |

I have had lifelong chronic and total Constipation. I have had this for over 40 years now. I could have only one small bowel movement a week and was completely clogged up all times. Bio Kult has been a miracle for me. I now have a normal full bowel movement every day. I only wish to God that I had found this earlier. Thank you Dr. Natasha for this formulation. No other probiotic I have ever tried worked. |

i took for the first time two capsules of biokult, as on the packet it says take one to two capsules once or twice a day, without any warning of any sickness or ill effects. The first day I took another full capsule in the night and the following morning two full capsules. I am now extremely sick and have been for about 20 hours. No vomiting or going to the toilet, just an incredibly awful sickness and pains in my stomach, burbing and just feeling weak and dreadful. I can hardly move. Now that I have looked this up on the internet I know now that I should have started with a smaller dose and will certainly be going back to the lady in the health store who advised me to take these to give out a warning with it. I havent felt this sick for as long as I can remember. |

Hey All, Have been using Bio-Kult on the Gaps diet now for over 2 years. I, like Linda suffer from serious constipation, its been a problem for my entire life. Since taking Biokult i now have regular bowel movements and feel much better. More importantly I am not constanly worried about my next trip to the toilet! Just to let you know I used to purchase from gapsdiet direct but a new company is now selling them even cheaper, worth a look http://www.blueherbs.com/supplements/bio-kult.html |

I didn't try BioKult, but I did do GAPS, and it was a disaster for me. It wasn't until I learned about FODMAPS that I realized why ... all the early GAPs foods were huge triggers for me (ugh, onions, really?). This website really helped me, and I followed her SIBO protocol to do kind of a paleo / low FODMAPS / GAPS diet: http://www.eat-real-food-paleodietitian.com/paleo-diet-and-ibs.html |

Kim? This is probably more a GAPS forum question, but I'm familiar with the product. Its a probiotic. As with any probiotic, you have to start with a small dose and gradually work up to it, if you notice any issues, back off and work your way back up to it again slower over time. As with anything, I'd check the label and make sure you aren't alleric to anything listed, this is often full of vegetable products including soy, in case you have some sensitivities. it says its Gluten free, Casein free, Lactose free, Yeast free and Salt free but doesnt say, corn free, soy free either. A theraputic level probiotic is meant to be taken around 60-70,000 per capsul (on GAPS) working up to that amount, so if you started with a full one at full dose or even a half of a full dose, you are most certainly going to have some ill effects. (maybe try the yahoo GAPS board) hope this answers the question! |

I really, really doubt that the problems people are having with biokult are related to die off. People don't get these symptoms from VSL 3 for example which is much stronger. The problems, I think, are more related to the processing biokult goes through so that it doesn't spoil at room temperature. There seems to be too many people with problems related to taking biokult for it to be a coincidence. Also, if it was detox/dieoff, then the symptoms would be the same with other strong probioticts which is not the case. |

My son has been on Biocult for a month and has had fevers and stomach aches and puking 3-4 days each week for a month..because its been a bad winter with flus I kept thinking it was a stomach virus or flu..now he is off Biocult he has no symptoms...not sure why..perhaps too strong, but he's never had stomach issues like this on other probiotics. Found out from doc that two other kids has similar problems and to remove it immediately... |

Bio cult is not your average probiotic. It has more strains at a stronger dose than most. Most commercially produced probiotics are nearly ineffective. They are not processed with harsh chemicals or other things as that would kill the delicate bacteria. The reaction most people have is simply die-off which is a GOOD thing although it makes you feel very sick. Often people who are in need of probiotic supplements should only take a small amount to start and build up gradually. The toxins released by the dying "bad" bacteria (hence die-off) that are in ones body, can cause harm so it's best not to just suck it up, but endure some discomfort during the cleansing process. |
