m skin has gotten super sensitive over the last couple years and it gets worse the worser I eat. At the moment, it's red, itchy, burns and hurts. I put on some coconut oil but it only got worser. What can I do? What can I try so it won't be this bad in general? What do you people with sensitive skin use for showering?
Hello, I'm sorry to hear about your skin issues. I have the same problem, and I've tried several different things to calm my skin. I first tried coconut oil, which actually made my face more flaky and caused my acne to flair up. I've read that because coconut oil is anti-bacterial, it can cause irritation if you have sensitive skin. The one thing I've found that works is jojoba oil. You only need a few drops, make sure not to put a palm-full on your face, or you'll look like an oil slick. Adding some vitamin E oil to the jojoba really cleared up my dryness very quickly. Good luck!
For soap, I'm a fan of this stuff:
I dilute it down 1-3:1 with water:soap, then keep it in a foaming dispenser, used during a quick cold shower everyday after I hit the gym, followed by a light dry towel exfoliation.
With my low carb (borderline very low carb) vegetable-based diet, combined with the minimal excess washing / touching my face or skin, cold showers, and sunlight / sweat from exercise, my skin keeps a pretty nice level of natural hydration / color and stays pretty clear.
Occasionally, I'll moisturize with coconut oil, often with a tiny bit of organic extra virgin olive oil. That's my go to combo. For a minute, I was using a little bit of gelatin with VCO+EVOO and that was pretty nice. Butter ghee is cool also, but I don't dig smelling like a movie theater / popcorn.
