I went to see a GI doctor for digestive distress and did not receive a diagnosis, but a referral to different MD who can provide a breath test. For the past 6 months I've been having digestive issues with each meal, regardless of the meal. Despite being strict paleo (100% gluten free and dairy free), nut free, low fodmaps, and following SCD I have only found mild relief following SCD and eating VERY low carbohydrates. I have also been trying to treat suspected leaky gut with bone broth and a few supplements, but run into issues whenever I try to incorporate probiotics or fermented foods.
Before I left the office the doctor decided to test me for food allergies just to see if there was anything else he could narrow it down to. The test came back, and I am about 3 foods away from being "allergic to everything", and my IgE levels are quite elevated. Everything from pets, all grasses and trees, egg whites (I did a complete egg elimination in the past and did not experience any relief) to carrots, almonds, lemon, banana, lettuce, cabbage, ginger, sesame seeds, and parsley, just to name a small fraction. Their advice: eliminate all these foods for good (what is left to eat..?) and see an allergist. For the record, all I have had is mild seasonal allergies in the spring. Love playing with animals, and only some mild localized allergic reactions to raw fruits. Otherwise, I have spent my entire life devouring peanut and/or almond butter, putting hummus on everything, tons of stuffed cabbage, and using ginger to cure an upset stomach. No history of any of these allergies, since going paleo a few years ago I feel like I'm running at 150%.
Dear paleohackers: what do I do now? Should I attempt to eliminate all these foods to see if it helps? Is this test even worth listening to? Is this leaky gut? Is there a benefit in seeing an allergist right now or should I go forth with the breath tests first? Despite my symptoms sounding similar to SIBO, my doctor said it's nearly impossible to have it without a history of diverticulitis or abdominal surgery. It will unfortunately be several weeks until I can see the doctor to provide me with the breath test.

Try to eliminate foods for now. I don't believe you actually have a food allergy but rather you have food intolerances. The best way to get rid of food intolerances is to heal your gut and slowly reintroduce foods into your diet again. First get a stool test done to see whether or not you have any infections then address those infections. Then attempt to heal the lining of your digestive tract with supplements and foods. Some supplements include L-Glutamine, DGL, Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm. Bone broth is also a great food to include. Then slowly reintroduce bacteria into your intestines with probiotic supplements and fermented foods.
What Paleogod said. I'd add bone and meat broths, and slowly introduce any foods you're not allergic or sensitive to. It sounds like these were caused by leaky gut, once the intestinal barrier is compromised, large food particles get into the blood stream and you build antibodies.
Once you heal the gut lining fully, the large particles won't get in anymore, and large proteins will be broken down and absorbed properly without immune side effects. The biggest danger is autoimmune disease.
Since the blood brain barrier and intestinal barrier are made of similar cells, one test you could do is the GABA test. GABA is a molecule that should be too large to make it past the BBB, so if you take it by itself and feel calm within 30 minutes, you've got a leaky brain barrier, and very likely leaky gut. So in that case, try to do the GABA test once a week until it no longer has an effect.
Usually most of the antibodies will go away within 6 months to a year, but sadly some will not, so you have to be very careful with your diet and get zero, yes zero, exposure to things that can potentially cause autoimmune disease (grains, dairy). Some people can react to even the wheat in shampoo or cosmetics for example, and will keep producing antibodies if exposed.
It's very possible you might have developed an autoimmune disease and not know it, as the symptoms may not show up for a few years. :( Be very careful and strict with your diet until at least the leaky gut goes away, at best 6 months.
It's very possible to have SIBO without diverticulitis or surgery if gut motility isn't working properly, or you're low on stomach acid (usually H. Pylori contributes to this.)
My wife has a serious AI disease that was poorly diagnosed & treated for YEARS. Eventually she wound up on steroids... side effects were terrible.
She dumped that MD & went with a real MD into alternative methods; supplements (esp fish oil) & an elimination diet.
No dairy, no eggs, no wheat, no grains, no nuts, no peanuts, no fruit, no refined / foods, no nightshades, no wine.... what did she eat?
Wild salmon & spinach (or other green leafy veggies), yams & sweet potatoes and baby green beans. She did this for more than 6 months probably close to a year. She went from 160 to 125 in about 18 months or so.
ime the most reactive foods are wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts.. start with those?
Hopefully you don't have an allergy to salmon.

Please go to the second MD and get this breath test done before you make any changes. It is probably a methane or hydrogen breath test which is non invasive and quickly done as an outpatient.
It will tell you if you have SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), which can be treated. If you don't get rid of the SIBO first, adding or modifying your diet with various foods and supplements can make the SIBO worse by encouraging the growth of bacteria in the wrong part of your intestines, thus making you even sicker.
