I am currently walking on a trail (with recent "PH addicts" post in mind) sporting my vibrams and heard a passerby say to his wife "look, she's got those feet...shoes". Highlight of my evening without doubt. Does this sound familiar to you?

A little girl standing in front of me at the bank with her mother kept staring at my feet. Then she asked her mother "is that man a hillbilly?".

What did mom say? LOL – jared Jul 25 2011 at 15:17
Mom was trying hard to get her to be polite, and I was trying not to laugh. :-) – Mike Gruber Jul 25 2011 at 15:31

I remember wearing them before people were accustomed to seeing them and got lots of strange looks, perhaps the funniest was a double take I got from a homeless man.

People are accustomed to them now? – Ryan H Jul 25 2011 at 1:37
I think in LA they are – Jeff Jul 25 2011 at 1:48
In Toronto I still get weird looks and I don't wear them out very often – Ryan H Jul 25 2011 at 1:49

A girl at the gym looked at my black pair, as I slipped them on, and said they looked like "Ninja Bat" shoes.

Which describes me perfectly, BTW. ;-) – lunabelle Jul 25 2011 at 1:47

I don't think people are accustomed to seeing them still lol No offense to any of you guys who wear them but I still do a double-take when I see them. They're the goofiest looking shoes I've ever seen.

My dad was quicker to convert. Mom still thinks they're for kids, which is precisely why I wear them. – Nutritionator Jul 25 2011 at 3:09
I can just see my folks saying the same thing! – BryanH Jul 25 2011 at 11:36
LOL....I can just picture and hear that. Too funny – jared Jul 25 2011 at 15:15

I feel lucky. My parents got me mine. They never know what to get me for my birthday, so it's typically a new pair, lol. But my ma did say "this way you won't be walking barefoot on the streets of New York!" in that motherly tone we all know. – Caleb the Hobbit Feb 5 2012 at 4:36

Hahaha! I get stopped by people quite often, most of them asking whether I like them or not. Then they tell me that they (or someone they know) was thinking about getting a pair for themselves. I always say, "Go for it", and that it'll take some getting used to but I feel so much better wearing them!

My boyfriend gave me a ton of flak for wearing them, I told him I'd stuff my Sprints up his ass if he kept it up XD

I get a lot of comments too. But they've done amazing things for me, so I'm always happy to talk about them. – Caleb the Hobbit Feb 5 2012 at 4:33
We should have a Tampa Bay Vibrams support group. I need to go to Bill Jackson's and get a new pair anyway... – Joshua Feb 5 2012 at 6:52
I wouldn't go there, Josh, except to try them on and then go home and order them online. Bill Jackson's jacks up the price by an added $30-40 because Vibrams doesn't sell their footwear to retailers at a discounted price. – Nemesis Feb 5 2012 at 14:32

For whatever reason, I have many asian girls stare, point and laugh when I wear mine. They usually say "Finger Toes! Finger Toes!" while covering their mouths giggling. I find it quite amusing. They're great convo starters, especially in elevators. I always wear socks with mine (Finger Socks! Finger Socks!) which is also a frequent topic of convo, whether they are familiar or not with them.

I've gotten my share of looks and comments, and my boyfriend calls them my ape feet. Just in case you didn't know about this site, Meghan, there's a ton of stories about people's reactions to VFFs here - http://birthdayshoes.com/forum/birthdayshoes-com-general-discussion/funnymemorable-comments-from-people/. Enjoy!

My favourite comment came from a German speaker. If you speak German this will make sense. He said. Oh wow, fus-handshuhe!

When I first got mine (black KSOs) last year my then 3-year-old took one look at them on my feet and ran away yelling "Daddy gots monkey feet!!!" They freaked him out for about a month.

The funniest thing I heard from a perfect stranger was when I was at my kid's soccer game. A parent from the other team looked at my shoes and said "Whoa, are you one of those primal dudes?"

My VFFs have been called:

"Hobbit shoes" -- my brother

"damn monkey shoes" -- family friend

"treehugger shoes" -- person from college

"superawesome barefoot shoes that are great for this work" -- a guy in one of my theatre classes.

That said, VFFs changed my life. So I play along. =)
