Like it seems you are already, I'd lean towards it being a waste of money. I'm also a bit suspicious of the barley grass amongst other ingredients... the enzymes might be helpful ala Robb Wolf's guidelines but NOW Super Enzymes are probably substantially cheaper if you want to go that way.

Plus I'd feel bad about my money going to feed the vegan machine! ;)

Bokusuperfood is a convenient way to get a ton of nutrients. It is more than just barleygrass, and it is far more bioavailable than a multi-vitamin or artificially processed enzymes. Think of it as paleo supplements. We don't eat processed food, why buy processed supplements like NOW Super Enzymes? – Dualhammers Oct 20 at 8:04

I'd personally ditch it and use that money to buy more meat.

Can you answer why you think you need it?

A diet rich in quality meat and vegetables covers all the bases...

There are NO supplements that you cannot get simply by going outside more and eating good food.

With possible exceptions for Omega3 and Vitamin D depending on food availability/cost.

If you want real noticeable benefits, each some probiotics, wild fermented, food based probiotics.

He needs it for the same reason he needs quality veggies. What you may not be aware of is that Boku is actually just desiccated vegetables - it's a giant green smoothie that has had all the water sucked out of it. It's just a more efficient way of getting the same stuff. To get the same number amount of nutrients as I find in Boku Superfood I'd have to buy 10-20lbs of veggies a week, and getting fresh, organic, veggies is not always an option on my budget. Combined with the fact that not everyone likes preparing and eating a ton of fresh veggies it is a fine alternative. – Dualhammers Oct 20 at 8:09

I have been buying Boku and I find it very useful - mostly because I can't get myself to eat vegetables, nor can I afford them on a regular basis in the quantities I would like. It is cheaper, and easier, to take boku than to try and force myself to eat a salad of sufficient size and quality.

I'd ignore the bullshit answers about just getting more meat; people forget how big the salads are that Mark Sisson and Robb Wolf eat everyday. If I could afford 20 lbs of organic veggies a week I'd probably get it it, but in a pinch I can get roughly the same nutrients from 4 scoops of Boku cut 50/50 with barley grass powder.
