Just curious as to other peoples results on paleo. How long have you been on paleo? And how much have you lost? Also a good motivator for people like myself who are just starting out, and for anyone else who reads this. Thanx :-)

Started Paleo on an 8 week challenge staring back on 1/15/11. Live it and breath it ever since. Lost 73lbs and 16% of my bodyfat. One thing I will have to disagree with Robb Wolf on however is that I feel like people looking to lose weight really should be using a food logger like fitday.com. It allowed me the control that I needed to see if I was where I needed to be. It's not necessary for maintenance, but for weight loss I found it helpful. |

1 year: 70 lbs. Kept all but about 5 lbs of lbm. So about 65 lbs of fat. I love to go in my grocery store and luck at the butter and put 65 lbs of fat into context. |

Hi there :) After 6 months of Paleo - I'd say 80% most of the time, with a couple of 30 day stints of closer to 100%), and I've lost 30kgs (66 bs). This has been coupled with some pretty serious gym training, and two fabulous crossfitter trainers, but the real results have been directly related to my diet - when it's clean, I drop the weight, when it's not so clean, then I don't drop as much. I started at 132kgs (290lbs), and am currently at 102kgs (224.4lbs) - so I have about the same again to go - but it's not slowing down. Chocolate is my main enemy.. when I have a little bit I want it all the time, but when I'm off it I'm fine... so that's where my will power needs to sit! My best advice is this - it's not about the food - it's about you - if you make good choices, and are consistent in your training and food then it will absolutely happen! Good luck!!! x |

6.75 months of mostly paleo with exception of some cheese and full fat yoghurt and an occasional cheat meal or beers (that I usually regret fairly quickly as am fairly grain/gluten sensitive) and have lost about 30 pounds. Still have 20 to go. Also, feel better than I have in decades (in my forties). Kinda felt like I was always in a fog and walking in a pool of jello before... |

I've been mostly paleo about a year- I used to be about 20 lbs overweight, lost 15 on weight watchers and about 10 more on paleo (I fluctuate within a few lbs). I've taken up weightlifting (mostly Oly and kettlebells) and occasional Crossfit-style metcons; I think I've put on 2 or 3 lbs of muscle. I struggled with my weight for years and made many half-assed attempts to lose; nothing worked for me until Weight Watchers, but I got burned out after a couple months. I am extremely grateful to have found this lifestyle because I know this is how I'm going to be eating forever (I also figured out about a year and a half ago I have non-celiac gluten intolerance, and it had been making me miserable for several years). Some family and friends thought it was a little nutty at first, but now a lot of them are trying it too! Good luck! :) |

i'm not a big fan of scales, so i don't weigh often at all. i was big before i started paleo, but i really just wanted a way to simplify my life. in a little under a year of paleo i went from a size 42 waist to having some nice room in a 36. not sure what the weight numbers are there, but 6 inches around the waist tells me paleo is the gospel... and so does steak... and eggs... and bacon... hahaha |

I have been playing with Paleo for almost two years on and off. Most recently I needed to do this seriously and I challenged my clients to come along for a 30 day challenge. In my personal challenge I lost just under 5kg starting at 84 ending at 79. My client lost just under 12kg. Amazing. Starting weight was 126kg. She was strict Paleo for the full 30 days and as her boys have nut allergies, didnt use nuts as a snack. She did not exchange her bad food for paleo-fied foods like paleo muffins or pancakes. Good luck with your journey! Do it for your health first. The weight loss is almost accidental when your body is given the chance to normalise. |

Been somewhat paleo since May of this year. I have lost 20 pounds. I assume if I go extremely strict paleo I could lose even more. And I agree with what Andrew said, do it for your health first!!! |

I've been mostly paleo since February with the exception of full fat dairy, a few epic cheat meals here and there, and a problematic obsession with tacos. I have also been watching my carbs and trying to keep them under 75g daily. I've been lifting weights using programs from DailyBurn.com and taking some Zumba classes. Despite spraining my ankle a few weeks ago, I've lost 27 lbs. I feel much better -- I used to have sore aching muscles after a workout and my recovery time is basically unnoticeable now, and I have better energy and I'm more consistent and even-tempered, which is good because I have a two-year-old. It's hard to stick with sometimes because I have been a lifetime foodie and had practically a romantic relationship with bread and pasta, but I don't imagine I'll be changing anytime soon. My new obsession is Salsa Verde... |

8 months now and 30lbs down. I'm done! Hoping to maintain myself this way, loving the way I can eat and feeling much better in general. For the first time am seeing signs of lack of intestional inflammation, this is about 8 yrs in the making! I went cold turkey in January, lost about 15lbs in the first month. After that it was slow going, but well worth the wait. Took a few months after that to get the right % that worked, and after about 3 months I began trying to go more paleo than primal. I'm still working on that. I eat around 50-60g carbs per day, I can't seem to do VLC, I crave veggies. When I was loosing I kept it at 50 or slightly lower but always around that mark. For the first time this weekend I allowed myself a cheat, due to a kind old lady working so hard to make a dessert for me. Needless to say I'm just now coming out of the bathroom this morning! Not sure what was in it (we asked for the recipe, as it was delicious, but now more to know what killed me) I suspect flour and sugar and lime. Lesson learned!! This does melt the fat right off your body if you find what works for you! |

I have been paleo for 6 weeks. I have lost 15 pounds. I started at 288, down to 273. I am pretty strict, except when I eat salad, which have to include dressing and cheese or I wont eat them. I dont eat a lot of salad though. I am using livestrong to monitor my food intake. www.livestrong.com/profile/uwhguy |

Two years - lost 30lbs - mostly in the first year and then have maintained a steady weight. I'm pretty much at the "right" weight for me, and no longer trying to lose. |

Been on paleo since February (WAPF for 2 months before that) and I've lost about 40 pounds. I still have another 50-60 to go. I'm breastfeeding and one of the most important things for me was that I not have to starve myself to do this since nutritionally that's bad news for my baby and I haven't ever had to. |

6 months and 10 lbs. Slowly transitioned over December. Weighed-in at 165 in December, then reweighed a couple months ago and found I had accidentally lost 10 lbs. Lost some strength with that, but now I'm stronger than I've ever been and I'm at 154. (5'9" male who definitely did not need to lose any weight) |

I'm 5'5, female, and fairly muscular and active. I started 2 months ago at 193, and I've at 176 now. The first 13 came off in about three weeks. Around that time, I sprained my knee, dropping my exercise/mobility to almost nothing for two weeks. I stayed within a pound or so of 180 for about a month. In the past week or so, I've been able to get back to my regular skating/exercise routine, and dropped few more lbs. I can tell I'm getting stronger (can do pullups now! And skate fasted thanks to PT!), so I'm pretty sure I'm adding muscle as well. I'm not terribly strict- I indulge in something wonderful at least once a week. But I've replaced my sugar snacking with spoonfuls of Kerrygold with a light sprinkle of pink himalayan sea salt... I'm happier about the fact that I can do 3 consecutive chinups than the number on the scale. But watching the change in how my clothes fit is good too! |

ive been paleo for 9+ months with 75 pounds to lose. i lost 35 in the first 5 months, and have been stalled since then with 40 more to go. i have always had a body that absolutely CLINGS to fat, and this is the most ive ever lost on any "diet", and the longest ive maintained a loss. im totally ok if it takes another year to lose the rest, even though i have my moments of total frustration and pissed-offed-ness at my body. |

I started low carb on May 1st and transitioned into paleo in mid-June after reading Robb Wolf's book. First of July I transitioned away from weighing and measuring my food to the unweighed and unmeasured approach Robb recommends, which made me a little nervous. I've lost 25lbs in total, with 6 of that coming since the 1st of July (the last 26 days). |

I have been primal/paleo for a year and a half. I lost roughly 30 pounds within the first 90 days and have kept it off. I am 6' 170 lbs and I am right now actually trying to gain some muscle, which for me is really hard on paleo because the food is so satiating that it is difficult to get enough calories down the pie hole in order to gain significant mass. Paleo works well for shedding fat and, most importantly, KEEPING IT OFF! Best of luck, Nick! |

My fiance and I have been loosely paleo (dairy, fruit, wine, chocolate...so, primal?) for almost five full months now. He's 6'4" and has lost 55 lbs, I'm 5'7" and have lost 25 lbs. He does IF almost every day, which is something I have discovered I simply cannot do without a binge later in the day, but I work out more than he does and I have been seeing more muscle tone development (he's still b!tching about his gut, etc.). My goal is to lose another 25, and be at 165 or so, down from 205 in February of this year. It's been a tough process, but he's a wonderful cook and we've had each other's backs all the way. Good luck and stay positive! |

I was totally strict paleo with no dairy for one year. I added dairy then and have been on and off dairy for another year. So, kind of two years. I haven’t lost any weight. Weight-loss was not my goal, though. I think using paleo as a general guideline for what is edible is a great path toward weight-loss for those looking to lose. Eating paleo food choices will undoubtedly improve your general well-being, digestion, energy level, outlook, mental clarity, etc. Then you can tailor your caloric-intake as you need and you’ll be very able to take bodyfat off. |

About a year. Pretty strict Primal but without serious regulation of cheese, wine, or nuts. I lost 20 lbs in the first 4 months, which took me 10 lbs below my goal and to 11-12% BF. Maintaining pretty easily since then. I have almost certainly gained some muscle throughout. None of it has been particularly challenging. The weight loss just happened. I am now in that curious mode of playing with different things just to see how my body reacts. All in all, I am completely happy with where my body is; not too bad for someone who turned 53 today. |

I started paleo on Sept 15 2010, weighing 194 lbs. I lost 15 lbs in the first 30 days and since then I have gradually lost more and more and now I am at 154, total of 40 lbs lost, just over 10 months later. I'm 5'5" 27 yo female, I probably should lose 20 more lbs of fat but I need to add muscle, too, so I don't know what my end ideal weight is going to be. To compare with conventional wisdom/dieting, on Jan 4 2010 I was 207 lbs (my heaviest) and I started with the whole chronic cardio (running....ugh) low-fat/high-grain nonsense, and in 6 months of being MISERABLE and torturing myself, I lost a whopping 13 lbs, to get to the 194 I started at when I began paleo. I was a size 16/18 when I started paleo, now I am solidly a size 8, but I do fit into some size 6. And holy cow I FEEL so much better. Good luck!! |

Me: 14 months, 95% strict lacto-paleo, moderately low carb (70-100g/day) -- I'm 5'7" and lost 25 lbs (185->160 lbs). Been 3 weeks on VLC (<20g/day) and lost another 5 now. Hubby: 20 months, 95% strict lacto-paleo, low carb (50-80g/day) -- he's 6' and lost almost 50 lbs (245->198 lbs). Ditto a few more pounds in the last few weeks of VLC. Both of us lost all that weight in the first 8-10 months, but have been stable for the last few months and decided to try VLC for a while. I'm starting Crossfit as well -- I'd like to get strong, and lose a couple more sizes :) We avoid wheat 100%, but both have continued to enjoy a couple of alcoholic drinks a week, some fruit, very dark chocolate, and very occasional high quality sweet treat. |

Started around the beginning of the year. I think scales are counter productive and so I only go on how I look and feel. Since I started I have run numerous 5ks, where a flight of stairs would have me winded before. I am 3 notches to the good on my belt, one more and I'll need to buy a new one. Ive had to purchase new jeans twice so far, only shopping at Old Navy now since no need to spend eral money on something I'll only get to wear for a couple of months. On top of that I sleep better, I'm more positive, I have better skin, I'm stronger, and just over all happier and more confident. |

There is more to lose than just weight. I lost a mere two kilos (4 pounds) not really wanting to but feel better this way. More important: I lost the sense of being controlled. (by habits, society, sugar, customs, people) I am now fully (well almost) in control of my body and I think this gives me more energy both physical and psychological to take more control of my life. Maybe I lost the fear of being alone, since I seem to love being rebelious(nutritionally) now. I'm not sure if this immense energy from eating Paleo comes from the physical side or from freeing the mind. Maybe both. |

I started at 6' 228# about 3 months ago and wanted to lose about 20 pounds. I switched to Paleo from a "Nourishing Traditions" diet (pretty close to Paleo, but with selective grains and some bread, allows much higher carbs and starch). Upon switching I lost about 6-7 pounds almost immediately, like in a week. You may call this "water weight", but it has stayed off, and my waist line went down an inch too. About the only thing I changed was to drop the relatively small amount of grains that I was eating (oatmeal most days and occasional rice or bread) and drop all sugars. I was amazed that what I thought was a relatively small change made a big difference in my weight. At the time I was running about 10-11 miles per week and was feeling fantastic, better than I have in years. Apparently the grains were really keeping me down. I kept this up for about 6 more weeks and didn't lose any more weight. As an experiment, I switched from running to strength training (kettlebells, floor exercises, etc) and again lost weight, about 6-7 pounds almost immediately, like in a week. It was strange to lose the weight so fast. My low is now 212#, and I'm up around 215# now, and I'm down 3 notches on my belt, in fact I'm on the smallest notch. When I was above 212#, I had a very decreased appetite. But when I hit 212#, suddenly my appetite increased a lot, and I had a hard time controlling what I ate. My goal of 20 pounds was kind of arbitrary but would require me to be 208#, which incidentally would probably be my lowest weight in > 15 years. Obviously my body wants to stay at 212# or above, so it might be tough going. I still have fat around my middle that I'd like to lose, and I entered my height and weight into a BMI calculator and it still tells me I'm overweight. My next goal is to try to get back to 212# in a way that I'm not constantly starving, and just try to establish a comfortable plateau at that level. I am considering giving up alcohol for a couple of weeks... which will be tough... |

28, female, 5'4, currently 125 pounds. Been paleo since Feb 2010, starting at a weight of about 140 pounds. Took me 1.5 years to lose the 15 pounds. Still have quite a high bodyfat level (mostly held in midsection and thighs) Currently working on the last 5 pounds (reluctant to say pounds, its more like percentages of body fat) and its going extremely slowly - but this is for life and I am not in a race to lose bodyfat - I don't mind if it takes me 2 years to lose these last 5 pounds :) From my observations weight loss seems slow going and problematic for women on Paleo (Like any other way of eating), as it's a little more complicated than for guys. My goal is to eventually have a faint line down the middle of my midsection, which I have never had in my life - my belly has been puffy since as long as I can remember, lol! Abs would be great but I am thinking that's being unrealistic. That linea alba will do me just fine :) |
