Hello All!

I'm currently on some muscle relaxors for some back issues and they make me very, very, very drowsy. Coffee isn't getting the job done; any ideas for getting my energy levels up while I'm medicated?

Thanks

Ben, have you tried coconut milk or coconut oil? – Ed Jul 26 2011 at 15:21
Will that work if I'm not in ketosis? – Ben Jul 26 2011 at 15:24

As far as I know it will. Try blending it into your favorite smoothie recipe. – Ed Jul 26 2011 at 16:39

are you going to be on them for a long time?

if your back is so bad that you need them maybe just lay down for a few days and let your body heal??

I'm waaaaay past the lay down and heal phase :-) I've been to the chiropractor and had soft tissue treatment. It's been over a month and the pain hasn't subsided. Medication and PT are my last resort before an MRI and possible surgery. I shouldn't be on them more than a few weeks. – Ben Jul 26 2011 at 15:23
Have you tried the Gokhale method yet? – Sara Jul 26 2011 at 16:28

25 and talks of going in for back surgery? What is the diagnosis, if you don't mind my asking? Do the muscle relaxants (cyclobenzaprine?) do anything for you?

Yep....sigh...there isn't a definitive diagnosis, yet. My x-rays look really good, but muscles in my lower back near my spine are in consistent pain due to spasms. I had soft tissue manipulation and chiropractic work for a month with no relief. My orthopedic specialist wants to exhaust all other options before an MRI, but he suspects it may be a slipped disc of degenerative disc disease (which runs in the family). So I am taking meds and going to PT. – Ben Jul 26 2011 at 16:14
Oops, I meant, or* not of :-) – Ben Jul 26 2011 at 16:14
Oh, and it is cyclobenzaprine, and they are working, I suppose. I'm also on a big, fat NSAID :-( – Ben Jul 26 2011 at 19:30

MCT oil should do the trick! Or go the other route and eat a LOT of butter.
