Which are the best Paleo cookbooks/recipe books? I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I would appreciate recommendations. Thanks!!

Go check out Richard Nikoley's Free the Animal Food Porn stuff -- he has, by far, the most appetizing recipes & pics. – Patrik Jul 27 2011 at 4:58
paleohacks.com/questions/33039/… here's a link to a very similar question with good answers in it too – Thumper Jul 27 2011 at 16:38
A lot of books are now available for download on Kindle or ibooks for half the price of a printed version. – Kelly Jul 27 2011 at 23:17

I am building my own recipe notebook from recipes I have mostly found on the net. There are many sites with recipes that are specifically paleo, but you can adapt others with substitutions...use butter, etc. The absolute best recipes come from old cookbooks (pre 1960 or earlier). They were using the animal head to tail, not afraid of butter, no processed ingredients, many recipes for game. Shocking difference. Even Joy of Cooking shows you how to skin a squirrel! I pick these up cheap at flea markets when I can. Calf fries anyone?

If you're on a budget, there is a wealth of recipes on the internet to be had for nothing. Start with the following:

www.chowstalker.com

www.thefoodee.com/blog

www.janssushibar.com (yes, this is a shameless plug for my blog)

There are tons of other excellent paleo/primal/real food blogs out there, and the first two sites will lead you to a great many of them.

I forgot to mention Jan's wonderful blog/recipes which I also love a lot! – HeatherC Jul 27 2011 at 15:35

I really love Mark Sissons Primal Blueprint Quick and Easy Meals. http://www.amazon.com/Primal-Blueprint-Quick-Easy-Meals/dp/0982207743/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311731706&sr=1-2

Tons of yummy meals and snacks!

I do like owning books but most of my knowledge on all things paleo are from free sites like Paleohacks, Everyday Paleo, Mark's Daily Apple, Robb Wolf and a new one I found Paleo Diet Lifestyle.

Did I mention they have crap tons of information and recipes that are FREE?

My library system had a few that I was able to check out. That was a nice way to preview which ones I would most. Or you could take some time at your local Barnes and Noble and browse them. I think B&N will order books in for you without obligation to purchase if it's something they do not normally stock. I've done that before.

Totally agree with Erin! The library to test the books then buy if you like. The library kind of rules ;) – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Jul 27 2011 at 14:03
I always get my books from the library.... even though they've had to send out for several of them. :-) – Sarah Aug 21 2011 at 23:32

I liked Well Fed, by Melissa Joulwan. The recipes were decent, but her meal planning section was amazing and kind of changed my life. 2 hours of cooking on Sunday to have ten minutes meals all week long? Yes, please!

I like @Nancy64 am building my own book from screen shots I've taken over a ton of different sites. I also have ones that need converting (those that are good ideas, close to paleo and just need a few tweaks).

Evenutally I'd like to print them out and bind them but for now I have over 700 items from a ton of sites.

Just google 'paleo recipes' 'primal recipes' gluten free, sugar free recipes and you'll get tons! you can subscribe to them and get daily updates of new stuff they've invented!

I love the internet!!

I think you need to change what you eat. There are a lot depends of the food. I used a lot of different diets, but only what helped to me is revise my menu. Unfortunately, I'm cooking bad :(. But my friend recommended me a site http://www.funnycookingbook.com. There I was able to find a book with lots of recipes to lose weight. Sorry for my English. It's my third language

Hi!

My name is Nikki Young, author of the Paleo Recipe Cookbook. Before I introduce you to my delicious recipes, I want to tell you straight off the bat that the paleo diet is not a diet designed by diet doctors, faddists, or nutritionists; it is a diet designed by nature. It is not the latest weight loss program or celebrity diet that leaves you craving sugar-laden foods.

You are welcome to visit http://paleorecipecookbook.org

Have a great day ahead, Nikki Y.

Why cookbooks and not the web? Some of the best paleo recipes are on www.nomnompaleo.com, www.health-bent.com, and www.paleomg.com.

Anyway, I second the recommendation for Joulwan's Well Fed. Her site isn't a go-to for me, but I really like the book because it's more about the hows of creating a week of paleo meals--it's more tricks and strategies. I have Make it Paleo and Paleo Comfort Foods and, while I'm happy to have supported those authors, I never open them.

ETA: It kind of also depends on what type of cook you are. I think the reason I don't consult those books often is because I'm a "read 10 recipes and then wing it" sort of cook. If you're a more precise cook, then you may do better with them.

Although I don't purchase paleo cookbooks because I just get my meal ideas from regular food blogs and from stuff that just comes into my head, this one would be the one I bought if I were going to purchase a paleo cookbook for sure.

Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts on the Go by Diana Rogers , highly recommended by Nom Nom Paleo.
