I am 5ft10inch 32 year old male, and until a week ago i weighed 96.2kg-morning weight. 5 days later i am 93.8kg. That was weighing myself in the afternoon. I feel fantastic and have plenty of energy. I noticed that i am thirsty all the time. The keto strips i have used turned to purple. I guess i must be in ketosis? What do you guys think?

Purple keto sticks means you are not hydrated enough. Try drinking some more water. – Annie Jul 29 2011 at 13:23

I'm guessing it's your first week of a changed diet. If so, that's totally normal. You should see the weight loss slow down over the next few weeks. If you feel good, you're doing fine. Just keep drinking water if you're thirsty. :)

It sounds like you're in ketosis but don't pay much attention to the color of the strips although dark purple truly means you are not drinking enough water.

I was the same way. I lost my first ten pounds within the first two weeks. As long as you are feeling good and functioning well, keep doing what you're doing! Congrats!

The idea that one should only lose a set amount of weight in a set amount of time -- there's never much variance allowed for individuals -- is a myth. It's a favorite of the vegetarian, viscerally anti-low-carb scene.

I've been trying to lose weight for a little over 3 months, and it all came in three brief periods. At first I lost about 6-7 pounds in about a week, then nothing for a few weeks, then 6-7 pounds in a week, and then once more.

Now I'm 20 pounds lighter over about 3 months, which is an average of 1.7 pounds per week, which is about the range that people say (1-2 pounds per week), but there were weeks where it was a pound a day.

I can't really explain why this happens, but it is undeniable. I weighed myself 5 days ago and I was 212.5#, and yesterday I was 208.5#, which is almost a pound a day. Long term I don't think you can lose more than a pound or two per week, but in short periods, obviously much more. Maybe something like the body burning up fat and building up fluids for some reason, and then dumping the fluids all at once.

It is kind of a strange feeling to lose weight so fast but still feel completely full (sometimes over full) at meals when eating about 1400-1700 calories a day, meanwhile having lots of energy and working out 3-4x per week. Today I noticed that my wedding ring is a bit looser, and I had to cut a new hole in the belt that I usually wear, now that I've gone down 4 notches!
