On paleo I am hardly hungry I skip dinner every night but eat breakfast and lunch. I eat around 900 to 1300 calories a day. If I eat more I gain and if I eat this amount I stay the same. How can I lose weight? I can't go lower in calories. I have been paleo for 8 months, I lost at first but not this is how it's going.
Normal day's food is
3 eggs fried in butter
2 salmon filets
½ oz nuts
6 tablespoons of cream
tea and coffee
Eat more calories! Add pure fat as you need to, butter, or more eggs and eat.
Its a real paradigm shift, but calories are NOT the challenge. People think they 'get it' but balk at a tablespoon of butter. It took me a while to really get it but every time I increase the fat I eat in a day I lose a little more weight.
If you limit your calories you will either stall in your weight loss, or be tired all the time, or both.
I think more information is needed. How long have you been eating this way? What was your previous diet like? Are you just weighing yourself as a way of measuring progress?
I'm no expert, but my take is if you spent a long time burning one type of fuel (sugar) it can take more time to adapt to burning fat as fuel (this is why Atkins has an "induction" phase which is super strict for a few weeks - to jump start those metabolic pathways).
Your lack of hunger is a good sign I think. Your brain recognizes satiety.
Please consider ditching the scale. I think it is such a meaningless measure of progress. Get a $1 tape measure and use that instead. You could be burning fat like crazy and gaining muscle - but the scale won't tell you that. It'll just spit out some arbitrary number that will either bum you out or make your day.
I don't know your gender - but us women can get so overwrought over that friggin' scale - it sure made me crazy for a time, until I introduced it to the garbage man!
check your %'s!! 55-65%fat, no more than 25% protein and no more than 50g carbs.....from here you can tweek it a bit. 900-1300 calories is too low, your body is storing instead of burning fat as it thinks is starving. no dairy, no more than 1oz nuts and fruit perhaps 1 serving/berries.
You dont want to aggerivate your IBS so do whats right for you, but do check out your %'s!! You might be surprised at how far off you really are. Then you can really start to hone in what will work.
If you can't eat more calories, could you try eating smaller meals more often? I was told recently that I may not be losing weight because I'm not eating enough. I was also told it would be wise to cut out dairy and have also read that it's better for you adrenals to cut out caffeine. (so far, I've only cut back on that, it's not completely out yet). I have to be very careful of all sugars, even fruit, but I am eating some vegetables. Usually about 30% of my intake is lettuce or green pepper or zucchini (ie: something green, but not too sweet). To be honest, since I began taking this advice, a few days back, I've been afraid to get on the scale to see how it's going. I do feel pretty good though. Just a small change.
Where is the produce?
Eat more food. 900-1300 calories is sad.
I tried what you're doing. It didn't work. Not at all. In fact I gained fat.
Eat lots of plants and animals. Oh yeah, did I mention, eat plants?
Some of us can't eat the way you're eating and lose fat. It just doesn't work that way. I upped my produce- I eat fruit, I eat veggies, I eat tubers. My weight jumped up 5 lbs, and now it's on a slow, steady tick downward without any calorie counting or restriction on what I eat. Best part is, my energy is vastly improved and my jeans still fit, even with eating as much as I want of whatever I want.
Today was bacon, sweet potato and avocado for breakfast. Snacked on a bit more bacon and blueberries for lunch. Dinner will be a big salad with beef and loads of veggies, followed by kefir with berries for dessert. :)
What works for some (especially guys) doesn't always work for others (especially women.) That's one thing to keep in mind.
I agree with intermittent fasting. You might also add some more fat, coconut oil preferably. I agree with cutting out dairy entirely to see if that makes a difference. Sleep, stress, and hormones could also be contributing factors.
i disagree with most...depends where your at...last couple lbs? i surely would NOT add fat. maybe try siwtching fat from SFA to MUFA. sleep more, focus not on the food but the vitamins & minerals in it. eat organs
My guess: youre not getting enough calories or carbs, so your cortisol is through the roof, which is why you are storing fat. In which case, Intermittent fasting, as suggested is not a good idea. I would suggest carb/calorie refeeds, particularly around workouts.
