I've never had trouble eating sweet potatoes before, but today I made sweet potato hash browns with some cinnamon and coconut oil and feel very nauseous now. Has anyone ever experienced this with sweet potatoes? I ate them post workout, on an empty stomach and I haven't had sweet potatoes in about a week or so. I'm wondering if it was just too many carbs for my system or too sweet...just not sure.

Liesl, You may have gotten a bad one. That's not impossible. Sounds like this is abnormal for you and that sweet potatoes don't usually give you this problem. Another thing to consider is that some people react to sweet potatoes. I remember Chris Masterjohn mentioning that he cannot eat sweet potatoes because an element in them causes severe issues for him and they even cause him actual pain. I doubt that it's too many carbs or that the sweetness level has anything to do with it. Hope you feel better soon. |

Is it a different variety of sweet potato? Do you think you might have accidentally consumed a yam?!

It may well have been too much coconut oil. I have gotten nauseous on a couple of occasions after consuming either too much coconut cream, and also a couple times after too many sweet potatoes with a ton of butter in them. |

both coconut oil or coconut in larger quantities (1tb will do it) for me make me ill. Also, the one time I ate a sweet potato I got extremely ill, nausea, chill like as well. I think it might have been too much of an insulin response. Haven't tried one since, but I'd like to try it again if I get the chance, only in a much smaller portion. I've been slowly upping my coconut usage in all forms, small amount don't bother me too much. Just can't over do it!! Try and experiment with a smaller quantity and see it that has anything to do with it? |

people here blame coconut oil, but for me it is completely not surprising: i always get nauseous even from small quantities of sweet potatoes (i also feel like my stomach turns into acid pool or something) |

Sounds like alot of guesswork. Eat each of these things separately, and test them out. If none of them do anything, I'd say you might've just hit a bad batch. |

I am having this same problem right now, very nauseous after a meal consisting of eggs, coconut oil and 2 sweet potatoes. The thing is, I usually tolerate all of them with no problem, but there was another incident when I ate a warmed up sweet potato and had this same nausea afterwards. maybe you just hit a bad one from time to time.. this was also a rare ocasion where I bought a non organic one, though I doubt that pesticides would have that much of an effect.. |
