A recent post by Primal Parent contained a few statements that piqued my interest.

"A carnivorous diet makes me rather Vulcan."

And:

"Weston Price noted repeatedly that primitive peoples did not “suffer” from a whole lot of emotion."

Anyone have any experience with becoming more "Vulcan" with a change in diet? Personally, I haven't seen any change, no matter how purely carnivorous I am. But, its been suggested that I have a personality disorder that precludes much emotion to begin with, so I may not be a good test for this possibility. Anyways, its an interesting idea. Thoughts? Experiences?

No question I have faced this.....five years ago some people on here would have gotten ripped huge. Now I could care less. My cortisol level is totally controlled. – The Quilt Jul 29 2011 at 23:59

Is paleo good for Romulans? I have a friend who is half Romulan and he said that paleo was bullshit. I killed him of course, but I was just wondering... – Dave S. Jul 30 2011 at 1:07

I think some may be diet related but over all I just think that there is too much a focus on emoting, wearing your heart on your sleeve, voicing everything you think, generally not being able to cope, etc in modern western society – ben61820 Jul 30 2011 at 1:25
@Dave S - He's not really dead as long as we remember him. – Aravind Jul 30 2011 at 3:14
Dave says he has a friend, not 'had', so you are right Aravind but not necessarily for the reason you have given – DudleyP Jul 30 2011 at 9:02

All I know is that when I was vegan/vegetarian I was a cranky, constipated bitch most of the times. Now, i'm happier, healthier, enjoying my fat and meat like a crazy person and wishing all to live long and prosper. 'Nuff said :)

Constipation will make ANYONE cranky! Glad you're feeling better :) – Nemesis Jul 30 2011 at 13:57

When eating a high carb diet some people especially insulin insensitive will have wide and sudden blood glucose swings. The low points tend to make people pretty irritable. So, yeah, reducing those will help with stabilizing some diet caused emotional swings, but Vulcan level control seems really doubtful. Thank Roddenberry.

Well, I've always been a Vulcan. I test as an INTJ and anyone else who does can relate - I feel like a robot compared to the average person. I very rarely have lows or highs, good days or bad days. Even-keeled is the word. Smooth sailing.

I've had depression but it's situational and it's been 'dysthemia' - just total 'meh' and lack of motivation or interest. No crippling sadness.

I've eaten Jane Brody style (from my mom), SAD (once I got a job), vegetarian, mostly-vegan, VLC, and now moderate-carb 'primal'.

Fellow INTJ! I'd give you a high-five, but us Vulcans aren't very touchy-feely ;) Although consensus among Trekkers is that Spock is an ISTJ, similar to us but actually follows the rules and does what he's told. Rules, lol. – Nemesis Jul 30 2011 at 0:32

I take a nightly sleep concoction that includes melatonin, gaba and 5-htp along with my Paleo diet and I've noticed that I'm a lot less emotional. This past week has been one of the hardest in my life, lost my sister and my husband left for deployment and I'm doing surprisingly well. Typically when he leaves i'm an emotional mess.

I used to take Melatonin AND Tylenol PM to sleep through the night. A few months into Paleo and I decided to wean myself off of them and let my body regulate itself. It was hard, but well worth it. I no longer wake up muddy-headed nor do I have melatonin-fueled nightmares, lol. – Nemesis Jul 30 2011 at 1:46
I am so sorry to hear about your sister...and my husband was navy for 22 years, I know all about "deployment" and months of no spouse, not knowing where he is or when he's coming home. My thoughts are with you...I'm glad you've found something that is healthy and that works for you and helps you. – Karin Jul 30 2011 at 4:07

Well, Vulcans were vegetarians, so I'm not sure if that's the most appropriate analogy, lol.

I think my age and not my diet has had the biggest impact on my emotions. I've always been outgoing, friendly, with a sick and deranged sense of humor. But as I get older I'm able to view things from a more objective perspective, instead of dissolving into hysterics over the least thing (I was never like that anyway, but so many people are these days it's rather sad).

I also enjoy playing the Devil's advocate, and being contrary just to piss people off.

Good question. Paleo doesn't seem to have affected my emotions. But maybe I am more comfortable with them. I am very emotional but have stuffed them most of my life.

I'm feeling pretty happy and stable these days, anything but Vulcan though. It's easier to laugh and be happy when you feel good.

I'm a lot less sentimental than I used to be. I suppose that could be seen as a bit Vulcan.

when, by virtue of either carnivorous or just plain no-crap diet, you lean out and get ripped, little stuff just has no power to affect your emotions
