Weird thing I noticed today as I was driving... and listening to political talk radio. I would always listen to either sports talk or music (and will still do that) but felt today like I wanted to know a little more about what's going on. I hate politics and think it's all BS, but still I had an ambition to really learn.

I also am starting to get back into paying attention to stock and options trading and just generally am interested in learning all the time instead of watching Family Guy re-runs while I chug a few beers. Anyone else noticing this? It's gotta have to do with switching back to paleo a few weeks ago... every other good change seems to stem from it :-)

LOL I love family guy...and beer. – JayJay Aug 3 2011 at 0:53
Ha, I had Family Guy on in the background when I first read this earlier. – Happy Now Aug 3 2011 at 7:54

Paleo has made me really interested in evolutionary anthropology, so I've been doing a ton of research over the last year or so on the cavemen, ice age, dawn of agriculture, evolution in general... hell, even dinosaurs!
Oh, and nutrition, of course. Give me a good nutrition book, and I'm good to go!

Same with me, i've read more books on nutrition and health then I've read all though school on every topic combined. – Ryan H Aug 3 2011 at 0:50

I was already going back to grad school to work towards a Masters but I've recently decided to go back for a PhD instead. Now I'm not saying it's completely related to being Paleo for the last few months...but I'm also not discounting the fact that the two could be related. I do find it easier to organize my thoughts and do some decent writing now that I'm eating clean.

Maybe a bit unrelated, but IF has definitely improved my concentration and focus.

Every time I visit PH I learn something new. Going paleo has really ignited my curiosity about things that I've never considered before.

Naw. I feel dumber. A lot of the technical stuff is just over my head, despite having a PhD and doing rather technical work.

do you really feel dumber from Paleo? – Roy Aug 3 2011 at 5:25
My brain is a lot clearer eating this way. But trying to read some of the Paleo technical stuff makes me feel like I need Paleo for Dummies. Part of the problem is short-term memory loss. At 68, I do have some of that. If I have to look up every other word, I get bogged down and can't really understand the document. It's like starting to learn a foreign language. You can look up the words and get the gist of the message without fully understanding it. – Harry Aug 3 2011 at 17:37
The technical stuff isn't just paleo, nutritional biochemistry is the same no matter what diet you're on, unless you're getting paid by SAD lobbyists. Just because a paper might be too technical for you to read doesn't mean the diet is responsible for making you "dumber." And just having a PhD doesn't mean you're more likely to understand biochemistry or nutrition. Poor answer. – Nutritionator Aug 4 2011 at 3:35
Excuse me. You don't tell me how I feel. Nobody tells me how I feel. I am the only expert on that subject. Re-read my answer. It is not a criticism of Paleo. The question was "Do you feel smarter?" My answer was "no". How was that a poor answer? Because I am not brainwashed to prance around singing whenever the topic comes up? I totally believe in paleo (primal version) and work hard to encourage people to try it. – Harry Aug 4 2011 at 6:23
Re-read my answer, I never told you how you feel. You said yourself your brain was clearer on this diet and I would associate that with an improved mental state. – Nutritionator Aug 4 2011 at 16:55
