Definitely constipation! There are several options to alleviate it.
Sennacides (senna herb): This causes the muscles of your intestines to push out the poo. Stimulant laxative.
Pros: works quickly
Cons: can cause cramping and gas. Can cause dependency if taken for more than a couple of days.
Mineral Oil: Provides a slick coating on the intestinal walls so the poo just slides through
Pros: Safe to ingest, doesn't cause gastrointestinal issues like senna
Cons: May not soften the poo enough to make it easy to pass. Also can cause anal leakage :(
Osmotic laxatives (Miralax, polyethylene glycol): Draws water to the colon, hydrating hardened poo and encourages a natural bowel movement.
Pros: Makes poo easier to pass, does not cause cramping or gas, does not cause dependency
Cons: May take up to 24 hours to work. Personally I recommend the MiraLax, I had to use it for 6 months straight until I got my chronic constipation under control. Worked like a charm, first thing every morning :D
Magnesium citrate (saline laxative): Increases fluid in small intestine.
Pros: Works quickly
Cons: May cause cramping & gas and can lead to an electrolyte imbalance. Not an ideal laxative, use as a last resort.
Once you get the poo out of your system, I'd highly recommend taking a probiotic with your lunch or dinner every day. Constipation is caused by A: Poor diet, B: Not enough fluids and C: Lack of good gut flora.
