First off I want to say thanks to everyone for all the great tips and advice. I am 24 and been struggling with pimples all my life. Paleo helped but did not stop it. Here is my cure, I felt compelled to share.

  1. Natural Face Wash: just rinse with water and rub with soft washcloth.
  2. Coconut Oil: both as a moisturizer and a make-up remover.
  3. Probiotic: take on an empty stomach.
  4. Fiber: take with probiotic or eat with meals.
  5. Zinc: I like opti-zinc brand.
  6. Baking Soda : Once a week make a paste to wash face and exfoliate. Then rinse.

I hope this helps people. I noticed results in less than a week! AMAZING.

If using coconut oil as a make-up remover rinse with water after. It was hard for me to accept putting oil on my skin but it is great. Get a good multi stran probiotic, at least 5 billion. I like garden of life ultra primal defense. I have been eating a lot of veggies for fiber but also take a supplement in morning.

Bad gut health causes my acne in my belief. Even eating paleo for over a year did not restore it to a healthy balance. Commercial face washes and products also irritated my skin around my chin/below my mouth and made me break out. Natural is the way!

GOOD LUCK! What do you think? What works for you?

Do you eat dairy at all? I found that even after strict paleo for 9 months, and then strict autoimmune paleo but with dairy I was still getting small but regular lone zits. The final step of avoiding all dairy has totally cleared my skin up. – ben61820 Aug 5 2011 at 12:10
Ben, in my experience ramping up vitamin A intake reversed all acne that dairy gave me. – cliff Aug 5 2011 at 12:39
I do not consume dairy. – BTCHLPS Aug 5 2011 at 16:28
Great list. I would add liver or cod liver oil (for vitamin A) and maintaining an o3:o6 ratio as close to 1:1 as possible. – Phoenix Aug 5 2011 at 19:04

I suffered pretty severe acne that was exacerbated by certain foods. Supplementing Vit A at 20-40k IU daily has been the biggest help in my personal situation and now the acne is completely gone for the most part no matter what I eat.

yeah, i never heard of this. interesting – ben61820 Aug 5 2011 at 21:29
I got the idea from raypeat because he said dairy increases metabolism and that increases your vit a needs. – cliff Aug 5 2011 at 22:41

Interestingly, acne medications like Accutane and Retin-A are both derived from retinol. Keep in mind that heavy retinol supplementation is not without risks, especially of birth defects. – animalcule Aug 5 2011 at 22:51
Retinol supplementation is only an issue when vit D is low, check out chris masterjonhs blog he's got some great info on this. – cliff Aug 6 2011 at 0:05

I posted this elsewhere but I found that eating cod liver oil and yogurt made from raw, pastured milk cleared up my acne. I got the idea from reading a recent review. The sad thing is that this was known 70 years ago. It also goes to show you that, for many people, there is a huge difference between raw, grass-fed dairy and the industrialized variety.

I don't think it's that simple for most of us though. – Korion Nov 14 2011 at 17:38
