Background: My mom lost about 30 lbs over a year ago using the "Carbohydrate addict's diet" but has since gained some back (maybe 10 lbs?) She works at home, and is not paleo but not all too horrible. She's 56, and she goes on walks most days (like 30 min) and goes to yoga maybe twice a week. I'd like to get her a weight training program so that she can actually be "fit." She is not big, but has some stomach roll and is not toned and I feel like weights would help her greatly. She complains of back and knee pains so she is pretty dead set against deadlifts, etc, but I think they might be beneficial.
She eats a couple eggs in the morning, a salad or wrap on a "low carb" grain wrap, and dinner we have meat, salad, (she uses soybean oil dressing) a steamed veggie, and she has icecream, or some type of high carb dessert. She likes to snack on chips or sesame sticks (flour) some days before dinner as well. obviously I'd like to improve her diet some but thats not going to happen. She's not into fintess or anything, but of course doesnt want to be fat. She has shown some willingness to venture into our basement and lift weights like I do (so does my dad) I was thinking about getting her something like the Primal Blueprint Fitness, but that is like 100 pages of reading and she want's something simple and laid out for her. I've heard great things about programs like starting strength, for men, but what would be good for her? Something that will build muscle but will be easy enough for her to start off with?
(I've though about her joining the local crossfit since it's so scale-able but there's no way shes going to go for that or put up the 150 per month...)
Thanks for your advice!
