What herbs and spices do you find most nutritious/beneficial to health? I have been sticking with turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, cayenne, ginger... what would you recommend to include that helps to scavenge estrogen, boost testosterone, increase mental cogency, energizes, etc. The works! I want to be the UBERMENSCH amongst the ubermenscheit paleos!

You already are the ubermensch! I don't see any other paleos living an aluminum box in the middle of nowhere. – Kamal Aug 7 2011 at 23:24

Behold, I teach you the Aluminum Box! The Aluminum Box is the meaning of the earth. Let your will say 'The Aluminum Box shall be the meaning of the earth!" I entreat you my brothers, remain true to The Box. And do not believe those who speak to you of supercubestrial hopes! They are poisoners, whether they know it or not! – Stabby Aug 7 2011 at 23:35

I'm currently on a big cumin kick. It dominates anything I put it in and marks daily apple just has a great article about the benefits of it: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/cumin/ I recommend it in eggs or as a dry rub on meats.

It's definitely one of the most distinctive-tasting herbs. I made ground pork tacos for dinner (with green leaf lettuce instead of tortillas) and the cumin really made the dish! Tomato paste, chicken broth, cumin, onion & garlic, dash of paprika and some ground mustard. – Nemesis Aug 8 2011 at 1:10
have you tried cumin over avocado with lemon and perhaps fresh basil yet? just sayin... – tartare Aug 8 2011 at 5:34

cumin=estrogenic, why I stopped using it when I heard the news. – PersonMan Aug 8 2011 at 12:07
Wow, I wasnt aware of the estrogenic effects of cumin, I better cut down my intake, thanks for the info. – Jester Aug 8 2011 at 23:08

For increasing free testosterone, you could try stinging nettle root. I don't know what it tastes like, but it's available as a supplement in capsules. (I currently take cayenne and cinnamon in capsules since I don't always want the flavor of a whole gram of them.)

Given your goals, maca is almost certainly worth looking into, and it does taste great (especially in combination with raw cacao powder); so get the powder instead of the capsuled extract. Put a tablespoon in your smoothies, or just in water, or make paleo desserts with it.

Taste-wise, my favorite herb-spice combination is sumac, thyme, and oregano (with sea salt and olive oil). It's so good, I'll even eat bread that's loaded with it (albeit wheat-less sourdough). And it does have decent antioxidant and antimicrobial value.

maca=hypertension, forget what other unpleasant symptoms I discovered when using it(briefly). Tribulus terrestris? I have used it and felt increases in aggression but diminished spermiogenesis/dryness of skin. Who knows if it REALLY works or no...? – PersonMan Aug 8 2011 at 12:10
Interesting, i have gathered nettless alot this summer but never thought about the roots. I prefer nettles for spinach. I do purees and soups with it. Its loaded with oxalic acids tho, like spinach and other greens. So it should be blanched in a big pot rolling boiling water. I am too lazy for that and i do not cook nettles as often as i would like. – Jan Aug 8 2011 at 15:59

Flavour of turmeric amazing- but recently read it can suppress liver phase1-then in turn phase2.
