i know coffee isnt paleo, but i drink it anyway,
in my pre paleo days I used to drink ALOT of iced coffee drinks( usually with soy milk and later on i switched toregular milk) , the type you get from places like starbucks that tend to be sugar laden and have artificial flavors. since being paleo i havent had any iced coffee and i miss them more than i miss carbs!
does anyone have a recipe or know how i can make a homemade iced coffee drink that would fix my cravings?
Yes! I created a Paleo Frappuccino recipe!!!
1/2 banana (you can use 1/4 of a banana if you are watching your carbs)
1/2 cup coconut milk (from the can)
1/2 tsp. cocoa powder
1/2 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled/cold
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
3 large ice cubes
I love my Magic Bullet! I just threw all of the ingredients in and blended it until the ice was chopped up! And guess what? It came out wonderful! Awesome flavor and taste. Take that, Starbucks!
Brew some coffee (I use a large french press), thrown in some ice cubes, thick lemon slices and a couple of cinnamon sticks. Keep in the fridge for a couple of hours and that's it!
Mmmm I like Steph's!
Tips for straight up Iced Coffee:
Brew your coffee stronger than you think you need as the ice will dilute the taste; or Make yourself some Coffee Ice Cubes
For sweetness, I like Stevia powder. Haven't tried to dissolve in a cold liquid yet so I cant comment there. You can find stevia liquid or you could simply dissolve a bit in some warm water and then cool with ice.
I, too love cold coffee, both the frozen-blended kinds (which you CANNOT get sugar free, even when specified at Sbux) & the cold-brewed kind. My husband & I started brewing our coffee in the evenings/at night & putting it in a large pitcher in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning the coffee is still fresh but now its ice-cold. This alleviates the need for ice cubes & hence the watered-down effect if you choose to sip instead of gulp. I add whole, heavy whipping cream or coconut milk or if I'm really jonesing I'll do a splash of sugar-free hazelnut or caramel syrup in my cream. Its DELISH! If you want the blended kind just add the cold coffee to your ice, cream etc in a blender & hit it! :D
I'm going to try the first recipe, that sounds really good. I typically drink 1 cup of coffee a day, use raw cream and raw honey, good with a sprinkle of cinnamon as well. If we are out of the raw cream (it's expensive and doesnt last) I use homemade almond milk.
I agree with Stephanie. I cold-brew my coffee and don't need sweetener in it. When I have hot coffee or hot-brewed coffee over ice, I need sweetener.
1/3 C coarse coffee grounds (I like buying the flavored beans) 1 1/2 C water
Stir the grounds into the water and let sit overnight (10-12 hours), then strain in the morning and pour over ice. I add just a splash of heavy cream and viola! awesome iced coffee.
