I've been eating and living the Paleo lifestyle for a few years now, but I'm just now getting into looking into different recipes... I've noticed that a few desserts call for coconut cream and/or butter. I use coconut oil and milk quite frequently, but now that I'm looking for the other two, I'm having trouble finding them.

So, my question, is does anybody know where to get coconut cream and butter? Thanks in advance for the help!!

I found it at Whole Foods, and most coops have it. – wendy Aug 11 2011 at 22:30

Coconut cream has sugar added to it so I wouldn't use that unless you can find one without sugar, coconut butter is available in most health food stores or I order it from Amazon. Amazon carries both products Coconut Butter

Edit: I found a creamed coconut with no added sugar, I'm assuming creamed coconut would be the same as coconut cream - here's a linkCreamed Coconut

I'll second the above linked creamed coconut: great flavor, no junk. Plus, add water, shake a ton, and you've got coconut milk OR blend it to bits with a stick blender for coconut butter. – Laura Aug 11 2011 at 23:01

Thats not correct Heather. Coconut milk is watered down coconut cream. If you look at the 2 Ayam products they are exactly the same, only difference is the milk has about 20% water added. I couulnt find the specs but ayam.com/coconut-range.html# – peter Aug 11 2011 at 23:28
Peter - when I did a search for coconut cream i found "Coco Lopez" brand coconut cream and that one does have added sugar, it says so on the ingredients. So that's why I said what I did, but if you read my post, I edited to add what I did find without added sugar. – HeatherC Aug 11 2011 at 23:37

Sorry HC. Didn't read your edit properly. If you can get the Ayam brand in the US it is really good. Nothing added, just coconut. – peter Aug 12 2011 at 7:27

You can make your own coconut butter. It's super easy and a heck of a lot cheaper.

Coconut cream dosn't have sugar added. It is almost surely hydrogenated though as it comes in the form of a brick(and doesn't melt) retaining its solidity. I researched this well before and these were the findings. P.S: lots of flatulence with coconut cream if you take even a few ounces at a time.

"cream of coconut" made by Renuka comes in form of a brick but slowly melts on room temp. – Ikco Aug 12 2011 at 10:50
You didn't research this well enough if you're only evidence is that you don't think it melts. First, you're just wrong because it does indeed melt. Second, coconuts do not melt at room temperature. Are they hydrogenated too? – Jay Aug 12 2011 at 13:06
PM - you got me worried so I emailed Ayam. They confirmed that non of their products are hydrogenated or contain hydrogenated fats. Also the fat on a piece of steak retains its solidity. Is this hydrogenated too :) – peter Aug 15 2011 at 12:24

I bought a coconut cream concentrate and it does melt (keeping the bottle submerged in hot water. I melted it and poured it into a cookie sheet then froze it and scored it into bars for easier use. (I bought an organic product, 100% natural nothing added from amazon)

I also bought coconut butter and it seems to be coconut oil with coconut meat. I am not sure what the difference is between the butter and the cream actually. Also bought organic 100% natural on amazon.

I get it at my local Asian market, but you can get the same brand through amazon: http://www.amazon.com/THAI-AGRI-Savoy-Coconut-Cream/dp/B0000D16YH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313103140&sr=8-1

This one's good. It's packaged in aseptic box so no BPA. and it has no guar gum or other additives: http://importfood.com/naturalcoconutcream.html

You can make your own fairly easily, its basically juicing the coconut meat and putting it in the fridge.
