I love breakfast, love love love! With Paleo my breakfast is just not as much fun anymore. No more hot chocolate, no more bread with cheese, no more yogurt.
Most of the breakfast tip I find is left over dinner or egg breakfast and I don´t eat eggs not do I find left over dinner to substitute my love for breakfast.
What is your favorite egg-and-leftover-free breakfast?
Have a nice day!
Here's a recipe for sausage biscuits that I love. I can't take credit for it - found it on a paleo site. If you are not into dried tomatoes, you can of course leave out those and make other minor changes.
These are yummy!
4 eggs 1/4 c. virgin palm oil (or lard or ghee or coconut oil) 1/4 tsp. Utah salt 1/4 tsp. onion powder or grated onion, opt. 1/8 - 1/4 c. minced scallions (or shallots or white onions) 1/2 c. coconut flour, sifted 1/4 tsp. baking soda (Aluminum free) 1/2 c. organic sundried tomatoes 4 to 8 oz. sausage or ground beef/bison sauteed with sundried tomatoes and some tomato or fave spaghetti sauce until semi-dry but mildly moist (I like Mario Batali's sauces)
Blend together eggs, oil, salt and onion. Combine coconut flour with baking soda and whisk into batter until there are no lumps. Fold in minced sundried tomatoes and sausage. Let the batter rest for 4-5 min to thicken. Drop batter by the spoonful onto greased cookie sheet (or use parchment paper), 2 in. apart. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 min.
Makes 8 biscuits.
There are some great "foodie" paleo sites and low carb sites which have good gluten free, paleo friendly recipes. Check this one out for the pancake recipe and more. There's a great pizza recipe on this one too that I use!
Experiment, have fun and begin looking forward to your breakfasts again!
I'm a fan of 1 cup of shredded dried coconut in 6 table spoons of heavy cream (can substitute for coconut milk). I add in a little water to cut the thickness, but I enjoy eating it. It's got 76g of fat, so definitely an energy-packed breakfast.
I had one of those moments this morning. Just wasn't in the mood for eggs. Often I will have coffee or tea with a fair amount of heavy cream and that will keep me going until lunch. Today I decided to "cheat" and had a half cup of blueberries with about 3 Tbsp of heavy cream, whipped. Another alternative is a small amount (1/4-1/2 cup) of full-fat, unsweetened yogurt (like good Greek yogurt) with fruit and a few nuts, maybe with some cream added.
I am a dedicated carnivore / protein lover but sometimes, especially for breakfast, I need to take a break from it.
Sweet potato hash is a good one and you can use any meat in substitute for the bacon
There are loads of muffin recipes on a lot of the paleo blogs that would be good (i've made quite a few - and they turn out great)
I know this sounds strange and very unconventional, but I just ate a large dish of gelatin for breakfast. My tummy was rumbling and it was staring me down.
Last night, I combined 3/4 c tinned pumpkin, 1/2 cup water, vanilla, cinnamon and cloves, and three packets of plain gelatin in a small bowl. Heated up a cup of coconut milk until simmering, then poured it in and stirred. It sets in about two hours, and is very dense and thick. It was frikkin' incredible.
why no hot chocolate? i make mine with cocoa powder mixed into a little butter then add warmed 18%BF cream. if you are dairy free you could use coconut oil and coconut milk?
i like lobster with a slice of canteloup in the morning. you could add berries if your carb target allows.
