Hi all,

I'm usually ruthless with label reading [I prefer my foods to not need one] but I've read good things about getting essential aminos into your diet.

So I bought this:http://goo.gl/Tr8Zs - and then read the label. It has an impressive AA list and the big three, but the ingredients are: Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein (soya, maize), Purified Water.

Argh! Soya and maize. This I assume, is destined for the bin.

In which case - what are the best food sources of BCAAs or should I just take my paleo worrying hat off?

Cheap Supplements brand on bodybuilding.com is 100% BCAA, nothing added.

My recollection is most Amino Supplements sold today is either from fermentation (essentially bacteria poop) or from partially digesting proteins with chemicals and/or heat.

I believe the powder BCAA's come from fermentation off sugar.

From a quick check, apparently Liquid Aminos is made by dousing (supposedly non GMO) soy beans /maize in hydrochloric acid, then washing with baking soda to reduce the acid. Most of the bad stuff linked with soy beans is the GMO type (which is the mostly available source in the US now). If there's still allergenic stuff in it, I suspect it is neutralized by the hydrochloric acid, but I don't know.

Personally, I like the bacteria poop over the acid mush, but both aren't too desirable if you think deeply on it. :)
