Have there been any scientific studies that can conclusively indicate one race/ culture of a people is more predisposed to benefit more from eating paleo over another? My mother asked me why I eat paleo, which led to this question. We got a bit off topic, but essentially we wondered since I am an American and was raised off of the SAD, are my beneficial gains from going paleo typical of human beings across the board, or different than, say a male raised in Okinawa?
I recall someone else posting something about this before, eg. race-tailored paleo diet. I entirely agree and would like to encounter some studies related to phenotype, ethnicity, physiology and their interrelations as it relates to diet. The formulation of hypotheses could follow these lines: race traditionally consumed x.y.z under conditions q.r.s and developed problems a.b.c. Now that conditions q.r.s have changed, the race eats x.r.c in place of x.y.z and the problems have cleared up. This is the basis of science(empirical investigation and observation, the formulation of hypotheses on that basis and their application to subsequent data) so...why not race-science? If ponly people would be able to overcome their ethico-political biases then we would all be able to understand our role in the world(our physiology, our culture, etc.).
considering that different races differ not only in skin color, face structure, height etc., but on functional level as well (ability to digest lactose, gene expression related to amylase secretion etc.) it is fairly (imo) plausible to think that, perhaps, persons of different ethnic background would react to different diets in a different way - that being said, however getting rid of "neolethal" stuff would be beneficial to anyone
on a side note, this logic can be observed in a 'campaign' to wean the japanese from the dreaded meat that had been waged since the ww2 in japan: high economic growth led to an increase in income, which allowed people to eat what they wanted rather what they could afford: meaning more meat, mEAt, MEAT! - this increase in meat consumption is generally frowned upon in japan not only because of conventional wisdom teaching that meat will kill you, but because, it is said, the japanese have a different body structure than whites (or other asians for that matter): the so called "dou-naga-tan-soku" (="long-trunk-short-legs") - a genotype-ingrained legacy of a long-lasting agricultural history, and a prevalence of plant based diet (buddhism forbids eating animals), where one did not need long legs to hunt but needed a long trunk to encase a long small intestine required to extract as many nutrients as possible from plants; thus, as the idea goes, the japanese are unfit for meat consumption because their digestive tract is too long to allow for efficient elimination of quickly digested animal-derived foods meaning that "meat" will sit there and rot
