Hey folks,

Could anyone please tell me which blood tests Robb Wolf recommends in his book? And what good numbers for each would be? Thanks!

From his book.

Total Choles 120-140

HDL <50

LDL 40-70

LDL Size A large nonreactive

Triglycerides 50-80

A1c <5

Blood Glucose <72

C-Reactive <1.0

Wow, he really recommends a TC of 120-140mg/dL? – Travis Culp Aug 22 2011 at 21:41
He says that he gets that figure from "ancestral norms" and the range seen in all primates. I think this range is a little iffy and he states that the figure is controversial especially in light of the fact that there are populations with high TC and low CVD. – edrice Aug 22 2011 at 21:53
HDL<50? I hope you meant HDL>50. – MiMintzer Jul 28 at 17:41

From the book

The basics:

Total Cholesterol HDL LDL Triglycerides Fasting glucose

Add-ons

LDL particle side Glycated hemoglobin (called Hba1c or just A1C) C-reactive protein

My take

I think that c-reactive protein is a must, it is strongly predictive of nearly every degenerative disease. I also go donate blood when I can and they tell me my hemoglobin and blood pressure, those can be important as well.

Thank you for the information! – Aaron Aug 19 2011 at 21:19
CRP is a non-specific inflammation indicator. A high number by itself doesn't give you much diagnostic value. – jake3_14 Oct 19 at 23:26
Well there are huge correlations between CRP and diseases that have a partial inflammatory pathogenesis so that's why I and most people think that it is in fact useful. If your CRP is high then that means that you have a problem and should begin thinking about it. I never said it would tell you which exact problem you had, but it does mean you have one with an autoimmune disease or just generally poorly controlled immune activity. Unless you have a cold or something, in which case it might be a bit elevated. – Stabby Oct 19 at 23:45

Sorry, guys, but this is one area that Robb is very slippery on. He does indeed list the TC of 120-140, but has also explained on this podcast that much, much higher TC is also okay..... if certain conditions are met. The guy is brilliant, but he's fast and loose in this one area.

Interleukin 6 is probably a better measure of inflammation and Robb has said so during his podcasts.
