Someone mentioned in another post that they didn't use whey protein, partly because of the IGF-1. This is a fair call, and I have heard the same argument before. Can anyone recommend a better protein drink substitute? I know that I should be getting my protein from real foods, however I am severely time deprived (work 40+ hours a week, studying my Masters, other shit going on) and I find my one protein drink a day is a quick, easy way to get some extra fat/protein PWO.
The whey protein I use at the moment is fairly clean, no sugar, flavoured with cocoa, minimal ingredients. I would be looking for something similar.
I think whey protein should be fine and I use it myself almost every day to make sure I'm getting adequate protein. I would not use hemp or soy protein. Egg would be ok but it's very high in methionine which some preliminary research has suggested has a negative effect on longevity.
If you feel great using whey protein, I wouldn't sweat it too much, but egg white protein can be a good alternative. I use one from NOW Foods, and I'm pleased with it. Jay Robb seems pretty popular; I can vouch for tastiness, but I didn't look at the ingredients.
Eggs. Either raw or cooked. I like to poach them and it takes just a few minutes each day. Then add 1-2 T pastured butter and that is it for breakfast. Or mix raw eggs in with coconut water.
