A little over a year ago when I began Paleo I visited a internist and preventative medicine doctor regarding Adrenal Fatigue. Among other suggestions, he had me start taking 25mg DHEA and 3 TG-100 Glandular's (http://www.herbspro.com/63775/TG100GLANDULAR.htm) per day. He's treatment recommendations worked very well and I seemed to fully recover from the Adrenal Fatigue. About six months in and without his recommendation I decided to get off the supplements cold turkey. Yes I know it was probably not a smart idea without speaking to him first because 3 weeks later I began seeing some of those Adrenal symptoms come back and I began to gain weight without changing any other outside factors. A few weeks after that I visited the doctor again and he suggested getting back on those supplements and increasing my DHEA to 50mg a day split between two doses. That was 6 months ago and I feel like I am in pretty good health.

I'm concerned about continuing to take the DHEA and glandulars in the sense that it will prevent me from producing my own hormones naturally. I suggested this to my doctor and he said these supplements are simply support until your natural hormone production recovers. I would like to eventually eliminate these supplements, but I don't want to go through what I went through last time. My doctor suggested to slowly decrease for a week a time and see how things progress.

Have any of you been in the same situation and have any suggestions to eliminate these type of supplements? Also, are my concerns valid regarding these supplements and natural hormone production?

Your doc needs to transition you to adaptogens.....easy enough.

I moved and am no longer seeing that doctor. I've been unsuccessful finding a similar preventative doc in the area. Any suggestions on the type of adaptogens? – hemanvt Aug 22 2011 at 15:14

try going cold turkey on caffeine and see if that's better for your adrenal problems than taking those supplements. Actually, I think those supplements are stimulants, I mean the only way to support adrenals is to stimulate them. So your body will stop doing it on it's own, which sounds what happened.

I don't drink caffeinated coffee. – hemanvt Aug 22 2011 at 15:53
