I have been on the Paleo diet for 5 months, without any cheating. In order to maintain the 2,400 calories a day I need to stay healthy, I'm eating meat three times a day, lots of fresh veges, and limited fruits. However, I'm still not able to eat enough (physically) to maintain the calorie count unless I supplement my diet with baked goods made from coconut flour or almond flour. My MD is concerned about the amount of nuts I am eating, since I eat a few almonds during the day, and then consume a piece of Paleo carrot cake or Paleo pound cake (made with almond flour). What do you guys think about eating Paleo muffins or a piece of cake each day to help me stay in the calorie target zone?

Personally I think you would be better off upping the carb content of your diet to reach your cal needs. Nut based paleo baked goods should be a treat food imo as they aren't necessarily that healthy. |

Maybe look at adding some more fat? 2,400 is not hard to make if you are eating even a little bit of fat. Just take whatever you like to eat and throw some butter or CO on it. I agree with Eric that you might want to save the cake for a treat. |

One suggestion: eat more meat. 6 to 8 oz is a decent sized appetizer. |
