I have been on oral birth control for the past 5 years, but in attempt to more wholely adhere to the paleo lifestyle, I want off ASAP. I'm married and want to have children in 2-3 years, but not yet! I've read about the LadyComp system on this site and others, but was hoping users could provide their perspectives of this product. Would you recommend it to prevent pregnancy? Is it easy to use? Is it worth the hefty ($400+) price tag?
Go get Toni Weschler's "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It's the same type of contraception as the Lady Comp (Fertility Awareness Method, or FAM), but you'll be using a basal thermometer, paper charts, and a writing utensil instead. Heck of a lot cheaper. My partner and I are diligently child-free and felt very secure with FAM for about a year, until he got his vasectomy.
Have fun without those synthetic hormones! Your natural, revitalized sex drive may pleasantly surprise you (based on what I have heard from friends getting off that pharmaceutical poison).
I am in the same boat and very seriously considered the LadyComp but ended up going with a copper IUD. It looks like a great product, and I knew that a gadget would help me actually adhere to it, but the deciding factor for me was not having to avoid sex when I most wanted it :) I was off the pill and b.c. entirely for a few months before the IUD (helloooo creativity in bed) and it was definitely starting to wear on us.
Also, look around for discounts if you get it -- I think I found a 15% off code when I almost bought one.
Even though I'm probably only going to have the IUD for 1-2 years, four months in and it's definitely been worth it.
Just figured I'd throw in another viewpoint!
I have also just purchased Toni's book and it so educational. I feel so uneducated about my own body because of my doctors always pushing to stay on birth control. I have been on birth control a total of 7 years. First couple years the pill, then the ring for the rest. I just started paleo lifestyle 6 days ago and I feel great. It makes sense to get rid of these artificial hormones when I'm already eliminated food that has them. Cannot wait to start charting! I am even contemplating buying the lady-comp as a second form of peace of mind along with FAM.
I have the Mirena IUD and though it does have hormones, it has a much lower dose than any oral BC and even lower than the nuva ring. Supposedly it has fewer side effects than the copper version.
I L-o-v-e it.
