It's very hot here sometimes, and as I'm VLC I eat tons of fat. It's not always a lot of fun to eat outside and watching my coconut oil melt. Melted coconut oil tastes horrible for some reason.

That's why I drink aloe vera juice (does anyone else do that) and tons of water. I was just wondering if you have more creative foods/drinks to survive the hot weather.

zucchini, lemon, mint salad with just a little salt. frozen blueberries, raspberries, blackberries. i make my own popsicles and ice creams/sorbet. seriously, you can freeze anything and make it a rocket pop. cold veggies - seriously, cold sliced roasted sweet potato is tasty! – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Aug 27 2011 at 11:30

When I'm doing ZC/VLC, I usually end up eating a lot of tuna salad and egg salad (with homemade macadamia oil mayo). Cool, refreshing, and wrapped in a crisp lettuce leaf, you can't beat it!

Yes to the fish/meat "salads" in a lettuce leaf! I make my mayo with half high oleic safflower/sunflower (11g monunsaturated per TBSP) and half expeller pressed, flavorless coconut oil. Tried with Macnut oil but the kids reovolted. I might try 1/2safflower/sunflower and 1/2 mac oil... – Katherine Aug 27 2011 at 11:56

Cucumber salad, sushi (go for the fatty tuna), and unsweetened mojitos can get me through pretty much any heat wave.

Sucking on frozen raspberries is pretty good too. – Happy Now Aug 27 2011 at 8:20
Not as LC, but I made a lump of chocolatety goodness out of coconut butter, powdered cocoa, a little goat cheese, some shredded coconut and a few dates in the food processor the other night. When I put it in the fridge it set up like good brownie. A few bites of that followed by a small glass of heavy cream and you've got yourself a good high fat and refreshing afternoon snack. – Happy Now Aug 27 2011 at 8:26

Dill pickles, oh well, we really have not much heat waves in the north. :(

I'm kind of boring in the drinks department. Water, water and more water in hot weather. As far as foods though, I don't think anything beats fruit. One of favorite treats it to throw some frozen fruit into the food processor with some Greek yogurt. Yum!

Have your coconut oil as a coconut milk/ice slushy.
