So my DH and I had physical's last week and we got our labs back. Mine are pretty much stellar except my vitD was 27, my metabolic panel looked nice, my trigs were low and cholesterol fine by paleo standards. My husband on the other hand is out of control.

First things first. He is obese, at a height of 5'8, he weights 280--weight has been a struggle all his life. Last summer he was down to 240 but regained 40 lbs. He was eating strict paleo but fell off the wagon for about 6 months.

The lab results came back, its really weird, Im having a problem deciphering and some numbers are missing, but basicall his TRIGS ARE 657. Is that even freaking possible? The note at the bottom says his C-REACTIVE PROTEIN IS HIGH and his VIT D IS LOW and his GLUCOSE SERUM IS BORDERLINE HIGH

Im really freaking out! Im afraid for one, that he's going to croak like tomorrow and two, that he is not going to continue eating paleo, and start eating low fat, super low cal as he did when I first met him (granted, he was about 180 at that time).

What gives? He works out far more than I do (Ive warned him about chronic cardio), but the dude just does not lose weight for anything. Im really worried.

im sure others will have better answers than me, but just wanted to say that im sorry, and that i know its scary seeing a loved one in trouble. i would be freaking out, too. i hope this might be an eye opener for him, too? i hope he is scared as you are? maybe this will be his rock bottom, and a catalyst for change? – being Aug 27 2011 at 16:06

Do you have previous labs that you're comparing this to? – Travis Culp Aug 27 2011 at 17:46

I'm not being a jerk, really. But 5'8" and 280lbs you expected good labs? He's 120lbs+ overweight. He can change this fast if he gets he's headed into ugliness. Listen to Jack (the Quilt) jackkruse.com – Don Aug 27 2011 at 22:31

He has full blown metabolic syndrome. He needs a strict ketgenic paleo diet loaded with inositol and choline. Get him back on board. If he were in my office he'd be scared shitless once I was done with him.

I ageee on the ketogenic diet. Less than 50 grams carbs per day and no oil except fishoil and maybe oliveoil.

Great point Jack! – Eric Aug 27 2011 at 19:58
Coconut Oil, not olive oil. CO is much better for keto and metabolic syndrome. – Don Aug 27 2011 at 22:34

How long has he been back on Paleo? If he was off the wagon for 6 months, it would take a while for his system to settle down. Quilt's advice is right on, and maybe even a 30 day regime for regaining leptin sensitivity is in order (protein right away each morning plus 2 other paleo meals, very low carb, etc.)

Two weeks he'd see a lab improvement......trust me I do this all the time. For him coconut oil is number one diesel – The Quilt Aug 27 2011 at 19:48
