How can I stay Paleo during a (hurricane-induced) power outage?

I'm in the DC area, so we're going to get a bad Tropical storm as opposed to a full on Hurricane, but loss of power, water, and flooding are real possibilities out here. (as Hx indicates) We're on high-ground so flooding isn't too big of a possibility for us.

Got my rations, meats, fats, veggies, etc.

Candles, propane, survival stuff.

Filled all containers, sinks, tubs, and washer full of H2O.

All vehicles fueled up. All electronics charged 100%.

I'm a nurse, so I have a virtual crash-cart in terms of med supplies.

Propane and burners.

I know this is last-minute as it's about to hit, but can you all think of anything I may not have from a Paleo-Ancestral perspective? Brainstorm! Thanks!

Thanks! We are gasless, and I do have crank flashlights! No radio, but our neighbor does... great suggestions! – The Japsican Aug 27 2011 at 16:46

If you have time, do your laundry or any other water/electricity dependent household chores - being cooped up in a dirty/smelly environment is no fun at all, and it may be days or even weeks before you have full use of your washing machine again.

They're not exactly Paleo, but baby wipes are useful.

If you want to be ultra-prepared, pack a small bag with essentials just in case you have to leave.

if you think you might have to leave home, make sure you know where your birth certificates, credit cards, insurance (health and home and car) info is, home deed, bank account numbers, chargers, and SS cards are. medications. and C-A-S-H. cash might not be paleo, but if power is down, youre gonna need it.

all this stuff SHOULD be together already in a flood-proof, fire-proof box, so just make sure you know at least where it is. im a first responder and you would be shocked at how many people cause needless problems for themselves by not even knowing where this stuff is in piles of papers shoved in a drawer someplace.

and please if you have pets make sure you consider them in planning, too.

good luck.

Not paleo, but fill up your tub so you can keep flushing the toilet! ;)

I shall add that blankets and/or sleeping bags, if you have them are very useful in case you need to relocate for a few days: sometimes the place where you go is short on these items!
