After reading the Paleo Solution, I have decided to remove nuts from my diet for 30 days, to see if I can combat some still chronic inflammation I've been having. I am also allergic to eggs, shellfish and avocado...can anyone suggest another alternative? Just mass amounts of coconut and meat?

Save all of the drippings/grease from bacon and meats that you cook. Use a cheesecloth to filter out the particles and bits of food, and store in the fridge for up to a week. When you want to fry something, just take a scoop of the grease and plop it in the pan.

I just made bacon last night (breakfast for dinner)! Sounds like a great plan! – Ashley Aug 28 2011 at 17:03

The grease from bacon doesn't taste much like bacon either, so you can use it for other foods like frying apples and such, and won't have to worry about it tasting "porky" lol. – Nemesis Aug 28 2011 at 18:37

I save my bacon grease and actually don't strain the particles. Something I really enjoy is sauteing baby spinach in the grease. Yum! – Brooke Aug 29 2011 at 2:14

if you're frying your bacon at high temps i wouldn't do this. high temp frying ruins bacon fat and create heterocyclic amines. put the bacon in the oven at 250 for an hour. – xjhues Aug 29 2011 at 15:54

The eskimos would dip their meat into seal oil... I like to dip my roasted meat in the pan drippings... yum! I also save the pan drippings and use them to make an easy soup the next day...

Recipes usually say to skim off the fat when you make broth from scratch but I always keep all the fat. It tastes awesome but makes the soup take a lot longer to cool off so watch out!

Ghee, coconut oil, plive oil, and avocado oil are all great. You van also choose fattier cuts of meat like ribs to up the fat content of your diet.

Coconut oil and meat would be a great. I am allergic to nuts and have issues with coconut so my fat sources are butter, cheese and cream (Along with meat). I would rather use coconut.

I can't do dairy, or I would be all over the butter! – Ashley Aug 28 2011 at 16:39

I haven't tried it, but I am allergic to the actual dairy proteins in whey and casein, not just the lactose. – Ashley Aug 28 2011 at 17:02

Ghee is both lactose and protein free. Pure fat. – Primordial Aug 28 2011 at 17:12
