All veggies need to be Blanched. Google this and pick an authoruity.

Meats need to be double wrapped- plastic- reduce air ( rubber bands if it has a bone) then tight with foil. Again google and pick an authority you like. I heavy duty vaccum sealer is the best way if you buy shares of a cow or pig, in fact a must.

making pickles and sauces, and fermanting are good ways of keeping good food thruogh out the winter too.

I vacuum everything, and meat i freeze cooked in their vacuumbag (sous vide cooked meats). I try to freeze pieces that are not too large, so they freeze as fast as possible (smaller ice crystals, less moisture loss when thawing). Meat is 75% water so this is important. I use glass jars for liquids.

I put berries on sheet pans and freeze them on the pan, after they are frozen i bag them and put them back to freezer.

No question that a heavy duty vacuum sealer is the best way to go. You can even cook foods in advance and get good preservation results with an effective vacuum sealer. It also works for jars as well.

Making sure your food is patted dry after washing/blanching/before wrapping will cut down on the frost burn.
