Today I ate some cottage cheese and suddenly felt a pressure on/in my skull.

I didn't eat much, maybe 5 spoons but the pressure was similar to one that I sometimes get if I drink a lot of heavy cream. Cottage cheese had only 11g of fat so I have excluded fat overdose.

Has anyone who is lactose/casein intolerant reacted in the similar way to diary products ?

Casein allergies have been linked to sinus pressure

This happened to me this week too! First time ever, terrible headaches. – Lindsay Mar 25 2012 at 4:03
or first time I made the connection, that is -- NOT the first time it's happened. – Lindsay Mar 25 2012 at 4:03

I get this effect from conventional dairy, organic dairy does not have this effect on me, neither does grass fed.

Which dairy products ? Since you mentioned it, yesterday I had some homemade cottage cheese and nothing like this happened. Do you get any other symptoms from conventional dairy ? – Ikco Jun 14 2010 at 19:38

just whole conventional milk or milkshakes. Cottage cheese sometimes. ice cream sometimes. never hard cheeses. – Adam Crafter Jun 15 2010 at 2:44

It could be an allergic reaction... or it could just be a coincidence. I think when we get really focused on what we eat (I'm guilty of this too!) we starting imagining connections that just aren't there.

Or, it could be a tumor. ;)

Examine the ingredients on the heavy cream and the cottage cheese - many have added goo these days. Carageenan, guar gum (which is a bean extract), locust bean gum, xanthan gum

It's possible that you react to one of those and not the dairy itself.

Most creams here are just creams and also the cottage cheese was "pur"e. Mixture of a banana, coconut milk and heavy cream hit me like a hammer this morning so I'm slowly and painfully giving up dairy. – Ikco Jun 15 2010 at 17:45
You're lucky. I have to make special trips to farms to get heavy cream that's not been messed with. Real cottage cheese I can get at the local health food store. – Nicole Jun 16 2010 at 22:15

Is that cottage cheese ultra-pastured and does it have additives? If so, then you can't blame just dairy.

I suggest trying raw, unpastured, grass-fed dairy from A2 cows (or goats) and see if you get head pressure.

Like Robb Wolf says, "tinker."

kalona makes an excellent cottage cheese, its still pasturized but no additives, and from grass fed cows. cottage cheese is pretty high sodium so that might have an effect?
