These two conditions seem pretty similar and I’m having trouble distinguishing between them… but think I may have one (or both) of them. Doctors haven’t been much help, so I need some input from you guys.
I am a 32yo male, about 150 lbs. For the last 4-5 years I’ve gotten strange rashes (mostly on my face.. diagnosed as seborrheic dermatitis), but occasionally rashes on my chest and abdomen also. They seemed to be caused by sunlight or sweating because they tend to come out in the springtime. Originally it would go away on its own, but this year it lasted for 6+ months before I was able to shake it. Doctors gave me countless creams which didn’t help at all. I was eventually able to get it under control with a Paleo diet, washing it twice a day with tea tree oil soap, and applying apple cider vinegar and coconut oil to it.
I’ve also had some a bad pain in my right hip that started around the same time the rash did this year (late February) and has not gone away. This is the second year I have had the hip pain… it went away within a couple of months the first time. Now it will sometime subside on its own, but usually comes back within a few days. Sometimes it gets really bad, and I have trouble walking or going up stairs. It seems to be worse when I stand up and start walking after sitting for a long period of time. I have had an xray on the hip which showed nothing abnormal in the bones. They want to do an MRI also, but I’m delaying that because it will cost me about $500 and I’m not convinced I’ll get much useful information out of it. My doctors (general practitioner, dermatologist, and rheumatologist) haven’t been very helpful. I also had digestion problems, but those went away pretty quickly with the diet.
I assume this hip pain is rheumatoid arthritis (even though I am pretty young for that)… possibly caused by leaky gut or candida overgrowth. Am I on the right track here? Doctors gave me prednisone (low dose for 10 days) for the rash earlier this year. The other year I had the hip pain, they had also given me prednisone. They were also telling me to take advil for the hip pain. As I started doing my own research, I see that prednisone and advil both contribute to leaky gut and could be contributing to my problem. :( My blood work shows I have an elevated sed rate (inflammation). Mine was 24 and should be between 0 and 15 they said.
I ate a standard American diet for years… started gluten free about two months ago and went paleo about a month after that. I am currently pretty strictly paleo (although all of my meats aren’t grassfed, still working on that). Also avoiding eggs (just for 5 days now), nightshades, and nuts. Supplementing with fish oil, vitamin D, zinc, and probiotics. I was eating greek yogurt, but stopped… not sure if it is damaging (dairy) or doing good (probiotics). I’ve also ordered some glutamine which should be here by the end of the week.
Any thoughts on what my condition could be, or the best diet/supplements for it would be appreciated. Thanks.
