Background: 23 yr old female, 135 lbs, crossfit about 4/5 times per week; I've been following a pretty strict (~85/90%) primal diet for about three months now; still eat some raw/grass-fed dairy, full fat yogurt, kefir.
Sleeps good - averaging 8-9 hrs per night and I wake without an alarm.

I've seen great results with the lifestyle so far - my workouts have greatly improved, I'm seeing massive gains in strength, have leaned out, and have a lot more energy. I seem to be toning up all over, except the mid/upper thigh area. No matter what I seem to do, I can't seem to lose the fat in that area of my body, and its literally the only part of my body that hasn't toned up and become defined since transitioning to this lifestyle. Any one have any idea as to why this is happening and what I can do to get rid of it/improve it? I do have a couple of cheats per week (it is summer, so I do have ice cream one or twice per week), but i don't know if thats enough to mess with the fat loss. Granted, summer is almost over so my weekly ice cream treat will be done with pretty soon. I think I remember hearing somewhere that females are prone to storing excess fat in this area of the body, but was just curious if anyone had any suggestions as to how to get rid of it or as to why this was happening. Thanks!

I had to eliminate all sweeteners, all nuts, and all dairy to get things moving.

3 months isn't very long. Give it time.

Could be excess of estrogen from the dairy. Maybe you should try to cut it out. I also have a theory that high fat foods, which promote testosterone production is aromatized in women, creating estrogen dominance by way of eating excess fats. Ice cream twice a week could do it though. Are we talking a scoop or a pint?

@Ashley - fat aromatizing to estrogen? This is the kind of gender specific stuff I've been looking for. Interesting - my profile has my FB and you may like the FB discussion thing we've got going too. – none Sep 1 2011 at 0:16

I second Ashley's suggestion to eliminate dairy, but for a different reason.

Although you consuming raw/fermented/high fat dairy, it is still a particularly insuligenic food.

Check out the link to this scientific paper, An insulinindexof foods:the insulindemand generated by 1000-kJ portions of common foods.

You might be surprised by what you see (scroll towards the bottom of the paper, "table 4")
