I know beef tallow would be best but I'm going over a non paleo house for my fantasy football draft. He is frying wings and I would like to know which would be better, Vegetable Oil (gross) or Peanut Oil?

Better tasting, or better health-wise? Of your choices, peanut oil will be better tasting, but I'm not sure about healthier. Lard would be the bomb. |

Definitely lard for the cost. |

WAPF claims that peanut oil is fine once in a while. I would hands down choose it over regular vegetable oil as long as no one in the group has an allergy. I agree with Carl and vdh, though- lard would be excellent (just be careful, because it foams). And, to be honest, as long as it's not hydrogenated, I'd even put up with some additives in it over peanut oil or vegetable oil. Esskay sells lard in regular grocery stores in the refrigerated section but they add TBHQ to it. I can get good pastured lard at a local farm, and unadulterated regular lard at a local grocery store, but not everyone can be that picky. :-) |

We went to a friend's house for the superbowl and they made wings that were fried in bacon fat. The friend isn't even paleo, they just have enough common sense to realize that it is DELICIOUS. |

Vegetable oil is probably better. Between the 2, Peanut oil has WAYYYY more omega-6 at 69000mg+ where as most vegetable oils, whether blends, soy, canola, corn based, tend to be between 1000-9000mg of omega-6. And most of those, even have a litte omega-3 content. I'd say that most regular vegetable oils are better. Quick search: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fats-and-oils/506/2 |

I use Coconut oil. Not sure why nobody else mentioned this. Maybe cost? I love it. Not heavy, no taste. Though I rarely fry. I do toss small cut potatoes around in a good amount of coconut oil, which produces a nice crisp (almost french fry-like) potatoe. I also fry plantains in coconut oil...great. |

I cook with coconut oil and olive oil the most. Pricey, but you can't go wrong with either of them. |

Canola Oil? It has the "perfect" 2:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 and high smoke point, plus flavourless. |

The lower the omega 6 / PUFA in the oil the better. More PUFA means more oxidative damage when you boil oil. It forms trans fats: Check here - see the oils and fats lists. http://paleozonenutrition.wordpress.com/2011/05/10/omega-6-and-3-in-nuts-oils-meat-and-fish-tools-to-get-it-right/ Apart from coconut oil, High oleic sunflower oil would be by far the best oil - it is bred to be very high in mono-unsaturated fat - which is more heat stable than PUFA's. 3.6 grams omega 6 per 100 grams Peanut oil is not paleo of course - being a legume and is high in omega 6; 31.7 g omega 6 per 100 grams. |

I love coconut oil for everything except eggs. I used Kerrygold for those. |
