Hi all, I'm a paleo newbie and was just wondering if it's normal to feel very heavy all the time? I haven't gained or lost any weight (only gave up grains a few weeks ago) and it's not a bloated feeling. Just heavy. I don't know how to describe it really. If you know the feeling I'm talking about, does it go away eventually or do you get used to it?...

(My ratios range around 55-65% fat; 20-25% carbs; and 16-17% protein. Is this too many carbs? I'm 5'6" and weigh 150 lb.)

Thanks!

If you're just a few weeks in, you could still be having some "low carb flu" issues.

In my case though, to answer your question, I never feel "heavy" from fat/protein. I definitely bloat and feel heavy from starches (much less so from fruit.) Your tolerance for carbs is going to be unique to you--for me, you're eating too many carbs but others are very successful eating a higher percentage of carbs than you described.

You could try going zero carb for a couple days to see how you feel; if you feel better, be very slow and careful about gradually reintroducing carbs until you reach the right level for YOU.

Thanks for your answer! I'm going to take your suggestion and cut back on the carbs for a few days and see how it goes. It also occurred to me that I'm drinking alot of coffee (4-6 cups/day). This could also be the culprit. Ugh. Thanks again! – Eedlewee Sep 2 2011 at 19:12

I also felt heavy on a high fat paleo diet. The problem was resolved when I went high carb paleo. I do not recommend this if you have trouble with carbohydrate or for loosing weight, it's just what worked for me.
