Does anyone know if consuming a lot of dried dill seeds regularly has any bad side-effects? I want to eat about 15-25 grams of them per day to round out my calcium intake. They taste really pungent though, and I read that they kill bacteria in the gut. Any thoughts?

I wonder whether the calcium in dill is that absorbable. – ROB Sep 6 2011 at 2:25
They are probably not that bioavailable because of being bound up in all that fiber. Can't imagine trying to get that much down in one go though! – JeJ Jan 16 2012 at 20:33

Makes sense Mal, since calcium supplements are often contain ground up egg shells. I'm not sure why someone down voted this. – Wcc Kamal Stabby fan Feb 13 2012 at 19:47

Well you could simply drink it instead..after having it boiled n filtered. add some honey or agave nektar for it to taste better

I don't actually know the answer, but you may be able to figure it out from these:

Constituents of dill (the chemicals labeled with fruit refer to those found in the seeds): http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/duke/farmacy2.pl

You can construct a more advanced query here: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/duke/farmacy-scroll3.pl

However, I also suspect absorption problems, not to mention difficulty of eating that much dill seed. I'd rather eat lots of greens personally. And gnaw on some rib bones.
