So there is a lot of theory floating out there about how to heal them, but I've never met anyone who actually has. I saw ramiel nagel speak about how he cured his kid's, but he is selling a book and maybe it's easier for kids?

I just want to know if anyone here has actually done it?

I'm going on what Price said himself about healing open cavities in children as told by C. Masterjohn (I think). Couldn't say whether it's true or not.

Yeah, but Chris got all of his cavities (which appeared on a veg diet) filled, he never tried to heal them... – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Sep 7 2011 at 21:24
Same here, all of mine were during my vegan days. Nevertheless, we clearly have the mechanisms in place for remineralization. – Travis Culp Sep 7 2011 at 21:35

I think so. I went to the dentist and needed two fillings. I cut out all sugars and took cod liver oil.. 9 months later... no cavities, no fillings needed :D So the question is, did I heal the cavities or was it a fluke? I did see a different dentist- so was the first one wrong? Second one? Or did it heal?!
I don't know but I keep taking CLO, and make my kids take it as well :)

eta: I had 2 separate dentists mention the cavities that needed work.. it was 9 months down the road and I moved to a new area, that dentist didn't see any cavities and I asked "are you sure?" and explained the previous 2 dentists that said I needed work. So either this dentist missed them.. or the previous 2 dentists just wanted money LOL, or the CLO worked!

Your new dentist should have been able to get your dental records kept by your previous ones. – Nemesis Sep 7 2011 at 23:46
yeah I think she has them by now.. so we'll see.. but I was pretty happy when she said no cavities! :D – thatonecrazylady Sep 8 2011 at 2:52
I had a dentist tell me I had 4 cavities so I went to someone else and he said I didn't have any. Sadly, I think a lot of them are crooks. – JessInSD Sep 8 2011 at 15:31

I think I halted the progression of a cavity. I had a soft spot a front lower tooth on the outside. The dentist noted the soft spot and said that that might turn into a cavity. The soft spot has since turned black and hard. The dentist said that sometimes the decay turns black when it stops. That was two years ago.

I supplemented with Thorne Research K2, a drop a day most days of the week for over two years. I'm on my third bottle of Thorne K2. Slight Magnesium (glycinate) supplementation.. ie 200mg/day most days of the week. I tried the butter oil, but I stopped because more than 4mL or so gives me acne. I tried cod liver oil, but stopped when I bought a bottle of the unflavored kind. I don't do bone broth. I don't eat liver, but I do eat a lot of heart and tongue.

I wonder how I will do when I go to the dentist this time because I've been more lackadaisical with the K2 and magnesium as well as eating more fruit. I'm lackadaisical about brushing. I'll do it a couple of times a week.

Edit: Oh, yeah, I was pretty good about supplementing vitamin D, too. ~4000/day

I think it depends on the magnitude or size of the cavity. When I worked in a dental office, and people would have a small cavity or the beginning of, the dentist would tell them to put some toothpaste on it over night for a little while and the tooth would re-calcify in that area. I never really followed up on the patients to see if it worked, but I assume it did. Most of the body is self healing anyway, so take away the harmful part, and I can't see why the tooth wouldn't just heal on its own. But, if you have a gaping hole in the tooth, then I think you're out of luck.

I have healed 2 small cavities in my self and 3 small ones in my son. I follow this system pretty close http://www.drecoaching.com/

I also drink a lot of home made bone broth, eat raw liver, supplement with magnesium, zinc, K2, vit A and vit D (in the winter)randomly, not daily. Do not eat any sugar.

I have healed a cracked tooth by just eating Paleo and taking my supplements. I had a molar get cracked when the adjacent molar was getting a crown a couple yrs ago. I was told I would need to get it crowned too. I was stubborn and decided to wait. It has since healed itself though it took about a year.

I have stopped tooth decay and prevented tiny cavities from becoming worse. I have also regrown enamel even though my dentist thought it was impossible...

How did you regrow enamel, Alchemille? – Glither Sep 8 2011 at 4:41

Well first I went paleo (no more grains = no more anti-nutrients), I became aware of some food allergies which damaged my gut which I did heal. And I religiously take some supplements: fermented cod liver oil (omega 3s + vit D) & pasture butter, bone meal (bioavailable calcium), transdermal magnesium and siberian pine nut oil (which boosts the absorption of nutrients). I also have fermented foods & drinks, nourishing herbal infusions, spirulina, clay, apple cider vinegar, bee pollen and/or propolis...Basically nutrient dense stuff to complement our anemic edibles (since the soils are depleted) – Alchemille Sep 9 2011 at 4:52
And of course no more sugar and very little sweets... – Alchemille Sep 9 2011 at 4:53

Well, I've been to the dentist twice in the past 8 years, and both times they told me I have a 'small cavity' (and need a filling) in the same place. It's not a pit, it never looks any different and I've never had a toothache. Ima keep letting it be and see what happens. I've only been eating paleo for a couple years and don't supplement with K or magnesium.

This is the same answer I gave in Travis's other caries post.

Yes, I healed a cavity.

Recently I had a terrible toothache whenever I drank coffee. The pain was bad enough for me to keel over and roll around on the floor. I went to the dentist who said I'd have to get either an extraction or a root canal filling. The root canal was extremely expensive with no guarantee of success. The extraction was going to require expensive surgery due to crooked shaped roots. While I umm-ed and ahh-ed, the dentist said, "you'll need to make a decision, the pain isn't going to go away".

I wasn't sure what to do. Coincidentally, I'd been reading about bone broths and decided to make one that weekend. Not because of my teeth, just because it sounded interesting. I had a bowl of this broth every day, and after three or four days the pain went away.

This was six weeks ago. I've made a bone broth every weekend since and had a bowl every morning. And the pain hasn't returned.

I went to the dentist for the very first time when I was 21, they didn't find any cavities 'til last year. I got it filled. It was little, but I was still pretty bummed about it. So, I went again in Oct. (2012) No cavities! I just switched dentists (same company, different location), this place just opened up near my house. Anywho, the appointment is going great. She says my gums and teeth are beautiful. However, I have 3 cavities. Now, I don't feel any pain, tenderness, soreness...but she is telling me that they are there. I go to the front desk to pay for my $25.00 xrays (since I switched, they needed to take new ones). The lady asks me about setting up my cleaning and when I'll be able to come in can get those cavities filled. She tells me that my total cost will be $414.00 to fill them. I don't know you, but I don't have that kind of money laying around! Then she wanted me to set up appointment to get my wisdom tooth out (which I do need to do). That it's going to cost $78.00 for my wisdom tooth to get looked at..(JUST TO GET LOOKED AT) I feel like they are just throwing all these prices at me. I'm not sure if I really have cavities, or they're just trying to take my money. So, here I am looking for ways to heal my cavities. I hope it works, because I cannot afford this!

There is a system talked about by a Dr. Ellie (can't add links from my phone, sorry.) I can't say whether it works or not, I had 13 cavities and have just been getting them filled.

Remineralization is real. The dentine flow reverses when you eat processed foods and sugars, thus making your teeth decay. I have had large cavities for years with no pain as long as i stay away from anything sweet, take mineral and vitamin supplements and raw milk. If they have healed or not i dont know becuase i dont go to the dentist anymore.

I think there's possibly some misunderstanding about what actually happens when you "heal" a cavity. If decay has begun, ie demineralisation of the enamel at the tooth surface, then eliminating sugars and starchy carbs from your diet will go a long way towards halting the process. Dentists have been banging on about this forever. Topical application of fluoride gels and pastes, while slightly controversial in some spheres, has been shown to remineralise early enamel lesions, but saliva will do the same thing if you let it by keeping the area plaque free. Once the decay has led to the breakthrough into the body of the enamel or the dentine, then you've basically got a hole there and nothing on earth is going to "heal" it. You can still stop the decay though, and with luck prevent toothache with the sugar elimination and good oral hygiene measures. The tooth will respond to the stimulus by laying more dentine down on the inside surface but the only thing that's going to fill that hole back up again is a dentist placing a filling in there. Is filling always necessary? Not in my opinion.
