What things can a person do prior to the test in an attempt to get more accurate bloodwork?

Follow the directions for fasting; eating too soon will throw glucose and tricyclerides off. Try not to stress beforehand as cortisol will cause a higher fasting glucose. Drink at least a cup on water beforehand and hydrate well the day before, so electrolytes and RBCs aren't elevated because of reduced blood volume.

Yup, being dehydrated makes it harder to find a vein too. Last time I got tested the tech who was drawing my blood told me about an elderly couple complaining that they couldn't drink coffee before their test. Ummm, because it'll mess up your results? LOL – Nemesis Sep 9 2011 at 11:31
