I thought it would be fun to try to organize a periodic (monthly? quarterly?) Paleohacks Supper Club in Austin. It'd be an opportunity to meet local PHers and discuss myriad Paleo topics.

I would expect this to be a mostly potluck-style affair, but a revolving host situation would work, as would meeting at Paleo-friendly restaurants (BBQ!).

At any rate, just checking to see if there's any interest.

After lurking for a year I just joined the Primal Living Group. I haven't gone to anything in the past because of scheduling conflicts and cuz the world Primal throws me off. What is primal? I follow paleolithic guidelines and just don't get the primal vernacular. I also don't get the Grok business which is tangentially related. That is a word from Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A Heinlein. I grok Paleo, I don't grok Primal. – MeepsIsWellfed Feb 16 2012 at 20:06

Great idea. Hope it can reach critical mass.

I'd be interested. Meeting more people from central Texas is always fun.

I noticed you have a dog. Since, Austin is the unofficial dog park capitol of the South, people could meet at a dog park the firs time and food could be optional. I must admit we have the loudest dog. He's a beagle that likes to bark.

I don't live in Texas anymore, but I'd totally be up for a meetup if one happens while I'm visiting.

My Paleo/Primal family and I live in Northwest Austin and think this is a great idea! It might be nice to meet at a park or hiking trail and do a potluck. Some of my favorites:

Walnut Creek Park - This has picnic areas and even a BBQ or two (probably not big enough :p). This is my absolute favorite place to go trail running and it also has a huge community pool. A lot of dog owners tend to hang out there, so everyone could bring their dogs as another poster suggested. http://www.yelp.com/biz/walnut-creek-metropolitan-park-austin

Town Lake - A good first spot to meet, since it's pretty hard to miss the statue of Stevie Ray Vaughn. More trails, water, nearby cafes and picnic spots, etc. Parking is terrible though. http://www.yelp.com/biz/town-lake-metropolitan-parks-austin

360 Bridge Overlook - This is one of those park by the side of the road type deals, so no picnic tables or anything here, but there are amazing views of the water and there is a flat spot that would be nice to spread blankets. There is a trail here too, but it can get somewhat mosquito-y. http://www.yelp.com/biz/scenic-overlook-austin

The best way to get this off the ground is probably to make a Facebook group or another website where things can be coordinated.

I like this idea. Hopefully, the weather will soon be more amenable to outdoor gatherings! – Suzy M. Sep 25 2011 at 19:39

I would love to do this sometime. We could maybe approach Caveman Cuisine (or other?)?

Location Possibility: Alice's Picnic Art Installation at Sandy Beach Park

No reservations are required.
