I am lucky where I work they have an all organic/pastured (mostly) based cafeteria. It is expensive so I keep food frozen or refrigerated here at work. In any case, I get a lot of looks from people when they see me eating…then they come up and ask me about it. The good news is I never have to share my food. They have their sandwiches or frozen meals to heat up.

(Today I ate a rib-eye at my desk with only my hands although my fork and knife were right there. Ha!)

Here’s my list from just my desk…

  • smoked oysters in olive oil
  • sardines in water
  • coconut oil
  • coconut chips
  • balsamic vinegar (shhh)--
  • olive oil
  • pistachios
  • tuna pouches
  • cans of wild caught salmon
  • pemmican bars
  • a jar of bacon grease
  • 85% Lindt dark chocolate
  • An electric egg poacher
  • cheetoes (just kidding)
  • Sea salt

Maybe you can give me some more ideas?

lol. I'd add raw almonds/pecans. Frozen berries (3 pounds of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries mixed together - all for $10 @ Target.) – Ben Nash Sep 13 2011 at 0:07

Where do you work and are they hiring?! Man, it would be nice to have a backup plan at my job other than the chips and candy bars in the vending machine. (Ok, I'm done with my jealousy now :) ) – A at Grain Free Diet Sep 13 2011 at 0:30

Avocados, 'chocolate squares' (frozen coconut oil, cocoa, honey with a sprinkling of chopped macadamias), nuts, berries and packs of Almond or Hazelnut butter, Raw Cookies, ginger flavored. I also try not to snack too much at work...but sometimes I need a few bites so I take 'em.

I keep most of that stuff around my desk too! I also keep a jar of almond butter on hand as well. Avocados are good to have around (I keep a steak knife in my drawer to cut them). :)

oh good call on the avocado – BaconHealsChic Sep 12 2011 at 21:59

I keep it a bit simpler. Hard boiled eggs, grass fed butter, and coconut cream in the fridge. Coconut oil and SeaSnax at my desk. I also keep plenty of hibiscus and green tea around.

I looked up SeaSnax...thank you...I'm definitely going to get those. Strangely addictive it said. lol – BaconHealsChic Sep 12 2011 at 21:59

That stuff is great but don't expect to make it a meal. Just for munching only. – vdh1979 Sep 12 2011 at 22:04

Nothing! =) Work is part of my IF schedule (I only eat breakfast and dinner), which does three things: I can be more productive during the day and go home earlier, I'm not tempted to snack, and I only have to worry about cooking two meals a day that I'm going to consume right away (don't have to worry about transporting, spoilage, etc.). It works great for me from both a health and convenience standpoint.

That sounds lovely. Cannot do that since my 4 and 6 year old make make meals too much of an adventure at home (Mama doesn't get to ENJOY the food) but I agree that's a great idea. Thanks Seiji. – BaconHealsChic Sep 12 2011 at 22:02

I keep beef jerky, nuts, and canned salmon and tuna in my desk. In the fridge, I keep berries, salami, and deli meat. I try not too eat too much at the office, but I don't eat a big breakfast, so I do get hungry while I'm there.

Thanks New Era. You have a beautiful picture. 2nd on the salami. – BaconHealsChic Sep 12 2011 at 22:10

What brand of salami do you buy? I can't find anything that doesn't have a bunch of additives. – Brooke Sep 13 2011 at 0:58
Try Applegate brand...nitrate and nitrite free. I buy mine from Costco though...6 bucks for huge amount and so go conventional on it. – BaconHealsChic Sep 13 2011 at 1:32

I get it at Earth Fare. It's antibiotic and nitrate free. I forget the brand. It might be Applegate. I forget. My office is less than a mile from Earth Fare, so it's easy for me to pop over there for a decent snack. – NewEra Sep 13 2011 at 2:30

Wow. You are all very lucky. I have almost no cold food storage at work so I bring a lunch everyday, I don't even have means to heat it. I have nuts, Larabars on hand and occasionally fruit. My boss does eat paleo too so she gets it which is awesome, we just don't have space! Can't wait to try some things you've all shared! Thanks!!
